Reverse Flow River

When Snowy Mountain blessed land is engulfed, Reverse Flow River is a raging river. On its surface, wild beasts, trees and grass, and rocks float or swim. ^{ch. 1271}

Wisdom Gu tells Ren Zu that on the path through the Door of Life and Death he will meet three obstacles: Dang Hun Mountain, Luo Po Valley, and Reverse Flow River. To get through Reverse Flow River he must move forward continuously, not stopping for even a second. ^{ch. 410} Ren Zu walks to the reverse flowing river as the final barrier on the path of life. Against wisdom Gu’s warning he pauses for a brief breath, and the river washes him back into the depths of Luo Po Valley. ^{ch. 411} Another chapter restates that at the final juncture of resurrection he was swept away by Reverse Flow River into Luo Po Valley. ^{ch. 435}

While trapped in Luo Po Valley, Ren Zu asks Self Gu whether it can bring him out of the valley and travel in Reverse Flow River. ^{ch. 646} After Self Gu leads him onto a different path, Ren Zu still marvels that he has not passed Luo Po Valley and has not charged through Reverse Flow River. ^{ch. 733}

A catalog of secluded domains places Reverse Flow River among rule path lands named in The Legends of Ren Zu. ^{ch. 2099}

Deviation (recorded): this page uses the Northern Plains region field because cited scenes place the river with Snowy Mountain blessed land. The first naming in Ren Zu legend does not give a five-region map seat.

The Legends of Ren Zu records that the road of death has three obstacles: Dang Hun Mountain, Luo Po Valley, and Reverse Flow River. Fang Yuan does not know Reverse Flow River’s location at that time, even though Dang Hun Mountain and Luo Po Valley are already in his hands. He even guesses that the third obstacle may no longer sit on the road of death. ^{ch. 1010}

A scene of the first split souls leaving the Door of Life and Death states that only seven of ten made it out because of Reverse Flow River’s obstruction, and that those seven then create Shadow Sect. Spectral Soul’s main body later sends more split souls from Obsession Death Domain through Reverse Flow River. ^{ch. 1016}

Speakers identify the river as the legendary Reverse Flow River from The Legends of Ren Zu, and call it a secluded domain of heaven and earth in Old Ancestor Xue Hu’s hands. Mu Ling Lan states that Thieving Heaven Demon Venerable once entered the Door of Life and Death with ghostly concealment and moved Dang Hun Mountain and Luo Po Valley out, but was unable to take Reverse Flow River. ^{ch. 1252} Black Extremity later states that Genesis Lotus Immortal Venerable entered the Door of Life and Death, brought Reverse Flow River out into the world, and was its first owner. Black Extremity does not know how the river later reached Old Ancestor Xue Hu. ^{ch. 1277} Mao Li Qiu restates that Genesis Lotus charged through the river, refined perseverance Immortal Gu at its end, conquered the river, and became the first Reverse Flow River Lord. ^{ch. 1285}

The fate reversing sacrificial refinement formation irrigates water of Reverse Flow River and uses that secluded domain as its base of power around Snowy Mountain. ^{ch. 1252} Inside the river, even rank eight experts cannot use Gu worms, a limit also stated when Black Extremity explains travel in Reverse Flow River. ^{ch. 1270} Attacks from outside the river are reversed and reflected, and reflecting those attacks consumes river water until the river can dry. ^{ch. 1270 ch. 1286} Dao marks a body already carries keep working where no Gu worm can be used: a Gu Master who once gained a boar’s strength from black boar Gu could still fight with that strength there. ^{ch. 1272} Gu worms that fall into the river are forcibly sealed by it and hibernate like fossils, their auras undetectable, and the river becomes their grave, most of them carried along by the water and destroyed by the waves or broken against rocks and trees. An affection Immortal Gu that reached the river when it struck the damaged Edge Link Camp survives there because its body is soft enough to take an impact. ^{ch. 1273}

With perseverance Immortal Gu refining, Fang Yuan conquers Reverse Flow River, ^{ch. 1285} and becomes the second Reverse Flow River Lord after Genesis Lotus. ^{ch. 1285 ch. 1286} He compiles the immortal killer move Myriad Self Second Style, Reverse Flow Protection Seal: the river shrinks into a light blue white robe with flowing water and an azure sash, and the seal blocks then reflects attacks, as when Old Ancestor Xue Hu’s icy light returns on its creator and Mao Li Qiu’s claw strike injures the beast while Fang Yuan stays intact. ^{ch. 1289} Without refining perseverance Gu and creating reverse flow protection seal, Fang Yuan judges he would have lost the Reverse Flow River battle. ^{ch. 1292} Once Fang Yuan holds the river, it weighs heavily on his immortal aperture as a secluded domain of heaven and earth. ^{ch. 1292} He steadies the aperture at set intervals by opening it to heaven and earth qi, and since the amounts are large and the gaps short he cannot draw that qi directly, so he buys immortal materials in treasure yellow heaven and breaks them down into it. ^{ch. 1316} The new perseverance Gu feeds on Reverse Flow River’s water. ^{ch. 1291}

Reverse Flow River was never held or modified by Shadow Sect, unlike Dang Hun Mountain and Luo Po Valley, so a time path Immortal Gu such as Landscape as Before barely works on it, weakened by the river’s own vast dao marks instead of moving freely through it. After rank eight existences drain a good amount of its water, the river recovers only slowly. ^{ch. 1302}

Holding Reverse Flow River makes Fang Yuan’s heaven and earth qi consumption truly huge, but it also lets him resist rank eight offense, a feat unimaginable for him before the battle at Snowy Mountain. ^{ch. 1321} Under Wu Yong’s profound immortal sound, Fang Yuan’s reverse flow robe shakes as the river’s volume decreases so fast it startles him. ^{ch. 1391} His sovereign immortal aperture comes to hold Reverse Flow River together with Luo Po Valley and City Well, and every three days he must feed it large amounts of external heaven and earth qi to replenish its expenditure. ^{ch. 1495}
