Wu Yong

At her dying moments Wu Du Xiu hands Wu clan to him, transfers her Immortal Gu because he also cultivates wind path, and dies. Wu clan supreme elders then pay respects to him as first supreme elder. Outside forces and some within Wu clan doubt whether he can lead. Qiao Si Liu judges that he seems ordinary but is not so simple. At the grand funeral he publicly seizes Xu Tuo as a traitor who leaked Wu Yi Hai’s route, producing evidence that clears the brother-killing rumors for the crowd. ^{ch. 1218}

When Fang Yuan appears as Wu Yi Hai, Wu Yong resembles his father with an unremarkable aura, shows animosity, and delays full acknowledgement while ordering grand burial for Zhang and Leng. ^{ch. 1219}

Fang Yuan later reads him as not simple after he agrees to hold the bloodline acknowledgement at the funeral. After that ceremony, an information path Immortal Gu carries Wu Yong’s summons, and he tells the acknowledged brother to take the Gu to the clan treasury and choose Immortal Gu under clan rules. ^{ch. 1220}

With Fang Yuan backing down, Wu Yong meets few obstacles and takes the clan’s highest authority, growing more composed, grand, and commanding than when he first took over. When the returning Wu Yi Hai asks to be sent back to the clan’s super Gu formation to cultivate, Wu Yong agrees and promises the arrangement within days. Coming so soon after Wu Du Xiu’s death, his hold on the position is not yet stable. Reading the brother’s refusal of every clan visitor as a sign he wants no part of clan affairs, Wu Yong hands him a large amount of immortal materials in his own name, to reward him and to be seen as a caring brother. ^{ch. 1302}

After Fang Yuan breaks the rules of the fight to save Wu Yu Bo, Wu Yong orders him secluded and made to forfeit immortal essence stones, even though the rescue was a merit. ^{ch. 1304}

Wu Yong hands Fang Yuan an information path mortal Gu recording Frosty Peak’s dispute with Xia clan and asks him to defend it, then grows anxious over the more than ten days Fang Yuan spends stalling, has no other Gu Immortal to send, and only breathes out when Fang Yuan at last leaves for Frosty Peak. ^{ch. 1306}

Short on manpower for a sudden dispute at Mount Snail, Wu Yong has no choice but to send Fang Yuan to deal with it. ^{ch. 1314}

Asked how the clan should reward Wu Yi Hai for settling the Mount Snail affair, Wu Yong questions his trusted aide Wu Fa to test Wu Fa’s read on his half-brother Wu Yi Hai. Outwardly he credits Wu Yi Hai’s ability and keeps using him, but privately he plans to cast his brother aside once Wu clan’s situation eases, and to move against him if Wu Yi Hai ever leaves evidence behind. ^{ch. 1316}

He summons Wu Yi Hai and offers a choice among three clan tasks: the wild Immortal Gu aura near Xuan Ming Mountain, the flood risk on red dragon river, and a birthday banquet at Yi clan. Once Wu Yi Hai leaves, the confident smile on Wu Yong’s face fades into gloominess. He writes out the words can be used, but unreliable, the assessment of Qiao clan he first gave his mother Wu Du Xiu as a boy, and still remembers her smile at hearing it. ^{ch. 1321}

Wu Yong can tolerate Wu Yi Hai’s greed but not any reach for authority, and offering him the three clan tasks was never a real choice, only a test of him. Within Wu clan he is on guard against two threats, Qiao clan and Wu Yi Hai, and once the two draw close over the moon festival and after, he decides to act early and have Wu Yi Hai transferred back to the super Gu formation as soon as possible. ^{ch. 1322}

Fang Yuan, as Wu Yi Hai, reasons that if his political value rose through marriage into Qiao clan, Wu Yong would no longer allow him such a relaxed environment, keeping him under close observation and suppression instead. ^{ch. 1332}

Despite the friendship and formation path standing Wu Yi Hai gains from Chi Shang, Shadow Sect’s intelligence holds that he cannot defy Wu Yong, who sends him back to the super Gu formation regardless. ^{ch. 1333}

When Wu clan Gu Immortals Wu Yuan Ju and Rong Hao are killed and turned to wood at blood tide pit, Wu Yong recognises the wounds as Qiao clan first supreme elder Qiao Zhi Cai’s signature killer move wooden statue murder, but tells him to his face that a frame-up this obvious is what concerns him, and that he has already invited Tie clan’s Tie Mian Shen. ^{ch. 1339}

Tie Mian Shen declares it was not Qiao Zhi Cai and that someone mimicked his killer move wooden statue murder, and confirms Wu Yong’s own account that a Seven Illusions true inheritance holder can mimic almost any method used by Gu Immortals in this world; the inheritance has seven layers, and each layer taken binds the inheritor to do something for someone in the future. ^{ch. 1340}

Investigating the Seven Illusions Demon Immortal that has already killed Wu clan’s Wu Yuan Ju and Rong Hao, Wu Yong is led with Qiao Zhi Cai and Tie Mian Shen back to blood tide pit, where he shatters a swarming ambush of blood beasts and finds the rainbow coloured Gu Immortal hiding in the drained pit, only for the sky to turn purple and a blood river formation to close on all three. A second Gu Immortal then rises out of the blood river as rank eight Purple Mountain True Monarch, names the trap his own purple blood river formation, and states outright that his goal is to kill Wu Yong so that Wu clan falls into chaos and the other clans tear it apart. At Wu clan’s ancestral hall the guarding Gu Immortal cries out that Wu Yong’s life tablet Gu and soul lantern Gu have been destroyed and asks whether he is dead. ^{ch. 1341}

Second supreme elder Wu Ba Chong stands in the ancestral hall over the fragments, the life tablet Gu shattered like wood scraps and the soul lantern Gu a cracked ladybird that no longer shines dark blue, and Wu clan cannot reach Wu Yong at all. As the first of the clan’s higher-ups to return he weighs whether to search for Wu Yong or pull back the clan’s defenses, and calls a meeting of the Wu clan Gu Immortals rather than decide alone. In the same hours Qiao Si Liu urges Wu Yi Hai, Wu Yong’s half-brother and closest bloodline relative with sufficient cultivation, to take over as first supreme elder and hold Wu clan’s authority from that day. ^{ch. 1342}

Trapped with Tie Mian Shen and Qiao Zhi Cai inside the purple blood river formation, Wu Yong reveals a rank eight Immortal Gu House his mother built, Clear Jade Dripping Wind Tiny Bamboo Building, which he had hidden so deeply that Wu clan’s own Gu Immortals did not know of it, and uses it to tear apart the purple thoughts and blood tides threatening them. ^{ch. 1344}

News that Wu Yong has died reaches Chi clan’s first supreme elder and throws Southern Border into chaos. ^{ch. 1348}

With the purple blood river formation near the brink of collapse and the Seven Illusions Demon Immortal trapped in a ball of wind and surrendered, Wu Yong strips away the rainbow lights and exposes him as Yao clan’s Yao Geng, long believed dead with his life tablet Gu shattered. Only then does he destroy the formation outright, find that days have passed inside it, and learn that Purple Mountain True Monarch’s plan was to trap his group and create a false image that he had died, so that Southern Border’s politics would fall into chaos. ^{ch. 1355}

Wu Yong sends word through an information path Gu that he is alive and bringing an Immortal Gu House as reinforcement, still at least a day away from the giant dream realm. ^{ch. 1361}

Wu Yong had personally approved lending bloodline Immortal Gu to his brother among six borrowed Immortal Gu, and had personally initiated giving him a hundred thousand immortal essence stones. ^{ch. 1378}

Catching up to the fleeing Fang Yuan, Wu Yong states that he came alone. Once Fang Yuan holds him off with reverse flow protection seal, Wu Yong mutters that all his planning to mobilise the entire righteous path, so as to create a situation where he could fight Fang Yuan alone, was not wasted. ^{ch. 1387} For Wu clan’s reputation he had been planning hard to divert the rest of Southern Border’s righteous path forces away, spreading a net so that Fang Yuan would come right at him, and once Fang Yuan escapes he slightly regrets that arrangement. ^{ch. 1392}

Feng Jiu Ge’s song shatters Wu Yong’s battlefield killer move four clear transforming winds, and the backlash leaves him coughing blood; after further fighting he still takes the initiative to retreat rather than press the attack. ^{ch. 1391}

Wu Yong judges that capturing Feng Jiu Ge alive is worth more than killing him, since he could use the Central Continent Gu Immortal as a bargaining chip rather than make an enemy of Heavenly Court. ^{ch. 1392}
