Fang Yuan, scouting that same formation, names the arranger as Chi clan’s first supreme elder Chi Qu You, a formation path great grandmaster. He says the strongest Immortal Gu formation Chi Qu You has ever made is three tune nine pool formation, that Chi clan descendant Gu Immortals used it during the five regions chaotic war and killed many Central Continent Gu Immortals, and that this super Gu formation has that style: formations inside formations, overlapping in layers. He also says Chi Qu You is still far from dying. ^{ch. 1212}

When Chi Shang’s lifespan neared its end, Chi Qu You visited and asked whether he had any regrets before dying; Chi Shang wept that a hundred years had passed too quickly for his formation path research to be finished, and Chi Qu You, moved, granted him a lifespan Gu that restored his youth. Wu clan’s intelligence takes the history further back: Chi Qu You noticed Chi Shang’s formation path talent when he was young and nurtured him deeply, and permitted him a cave of his own, with attendants and servants, so he could keep researching. After the lifespan Gu he guided Chi Shang in formation path for three days and three nights, confirmed him as the clan’s future hope whose attainment could one day reach great grandmaster, and backed that judgement with a great deal of clan resources. Qiao Si Liu’s letter then gives Fang Yuan the reason behind it: Chi Qu You knows his son Chi Bang has limited capability yet wants him to be Chi clan’s future first supreme elder, so he invested in the formation devotee, whose admiration and gratitude would leave him unable to escape Chi Bang’s control. ^{ch. 1331}

Fang Yuan puts the same reading in sharper terms: Chi Qu You was not senile, he knew that a Gu Immortal focused on researching formation path with no capabilities in political conflicts would eventually become a tool that was used, and he nurtured Chi Shang extensively precisely because he knew it. Because his son needed to be the first supreme elder, he needed a tool to assist his son, and Chi Shang was the chosen one. ^{ch. 1332}

Chi clan has little to worry about, in part because Chi Qu You is a rank eight Gu Immortal. ^{ch. 1348}

Chi Gui explains Chi Qu You’s design of the super Gu formation: to guard against traitors and prevent it being destroyed from within, the first and second layers can only be controlled by a single person, so that not even Chi Gui himself can retake the formation once Wu Yi Hai holds it. ^{ch. 1357}

Wu Yong’s transmission tells Fang Yuan that Chi Qu You is also bringing a Chi clan Immortal Gu House to the giant dream realm as backup, though farther out than Wu Yong’s own. ^{ch. 1361}

According to Chi Gui’s information path Gu, the super Gu formation’s first layer can only be used by a Chi clan Gu Immortal, verified in part through life tablet Gu and soul lantern Gu; this was Chi Qu You’s personal arrangement, placing his own clan’s benefit first. ^{ch. 1362}

When Wu Yong gives chase after Shadow Sect over his missing brother, he counts behind him countless other Southern Border righteous path Gu Immortals, rank eight Gu Immortal Chi Qu You, and several Immortal Gu Houses, a battle force he is confident can crush Shadow Sect even through an ambush. ^{ch. 1378}

Facing the super Gu formation at Plunder Shadow Earth Trench, which Wu Yong reads as profound, its creator having used the trench’s natural dao marks to build an immortal Gu formation out of large numbers of mortal Gu, Chi Qu You calls out excitedly from inside Chi clan’s Immortal Gu House and offers to deduce its weakness and break it. Wu Yong lightly refuses, saying the extermination trip should be finished quickly and that the Gu formation could not block their Immortal Gu Houses’ attacks even with several times more shadow monsters. ^{ch. 1381}

Inside a Heavenly Court formation, his voice reaches Wu Yong: he has already deciphered the formation, and they should attack a place that is the true formation core. After that core is destroyed, the formation becomes much slower and duller. Black Extremity Sun Ming Lu admires that Chi Qu You outperformed him and comprehended the profundities in a shorter time. Chi Qu You then names the compound as nine-nine consecutive unceasing formation, which can mix nine sub-formations so that destroying one lets Heavenly Court set up another at the core. ^{ch. 1729}

During the fight over the five regional limit formation, Wan Zi Hong restrains him and Zhou Xiong Xin traps him in rumor cage. Information path tigers devour him. Wu Yong and the rest see torn and dismembered remains. Chi clan immortals cry out for first supreme elder Chi Qu You. Wu Yong treats the death as a worse blow to Southern Border morale than losing Yi Hao Fang or Ba De. ^{ch. 1932}
