Gu Formation

A large formation can use a wisdom path Immortal Gu as core and a blood path Immortal Gu as support. Once activated, it can shake heaven and earth and threaten many Gu Immortals at once. After the battle such a formation can be moved back into its makers’ own blessed land. Its severe drawback is that activation can demand Gu Immortals’ immortal aperture origin cores. ^{ch. 788}

Coarse Gu formations still matter. They can give simple monitoring and mark an island or site as claimed so other Gu Immortals do not treat the place as ownerless. ^{ch. 819} Inside an immortal aperture, simple Gu formations isolate poisonous lakes so toxins seep only a little each year and nourish chosen plants instead of wrecking the land at once. ^{ch. 826}

Larger and smaller Immortal Gu formations can seat an immortal aperture inside a desolate beast for relocation. During transfer the carrier cannot take in another immortal aperture or freely use Immortal Gu without collapsing the formation. Even slight outside influence can make the Gu formation fail, destroy the Immortal Gu used, and abort the move. ^{ch. 901}

Refinement path Gu Immortals with high attainment keep their own refinement path Gu formations and many supplementary formations around them. Those layers make refinement path Gu worms more effective and save time and energy. Snowy Mountain blessed land’s refinement path Gu formation is called the best for that path among Northern Plains’ demonic path, and it is a multi-layered setup said to use twelve different Gu formations. Superficial formations still depend on the arranger’s formation path attainment; low attainment limits what can be set up. ^{ch. 936}

A formation can refine Gu and also conceal cultivators from the perception of heaven’s will. A failed Gu refinement can destroy several of the defensive Gu formations around a main refinement path formation and damage that formation itself. Reading one ruined site, Fang Yuan cannot settle whether an explosion destroyed its Immortal Gu or whether they starved over time because the two or three food path Gu formations there could not feed them. ^{ch. 937}

Gu formations vary by form: some are simple builds, others are compound formations, and others are formations built within formations, and by shape they run to square, circular, and other layouts. They also vary by activation, some triggering at once and some only after a delay, and further divide by path, such as fire formations or water formations. Some formations layer like a tower, some take modification easily like a set of clothes needing only a patch, and others cannot be modified at all because altering one piece can collapse the whole formation. ^{ch. 1329}
