Purple sand

Inside a giant space-path Gu formation, the ground is paved with purple sand under a yellow sky, and dense vegetation covers the sight like a tropical rainforest. Fang Yuan grabs a large amount; the sand is extremely fine, spills through his fingers like crystal grains, and emits fluorescent light while falling. Immortal beans grow on the purple sand here instead of in spring water, and other immortal materials lack their usual companions. ^{ch. 934}

When Fang Yuan picks scribe grass from the purple sand, it withers into fine purple sand identical to the ground under his feet. Other immortal materials do the same the moment they leave the sand, and he judges them unusable. He notes that when immortal materials wither into purple sand their dao marks should be destroyed, yet there is no disturbance from that change. ^{ch. 934}

Deeper in, soft purple sand forms a desolate circular landscape at least two square kilometers across, deathly silent, with the earlier sea of immortal materials gone. Fragments of a hard turtle shell turn into purple sand in his hands and scatter with the wind when he tries to collect a dead hidden essence turtle. Bee wings taken from the sand stay undamaged and do not turn into purple sand like the other immortal materials. ^{ch. 935}

Fang Yuan finds that immortal materials of that high level no longer disintegrate after leaving the purple sand. At the center of the desolate land the purple sand is much finer, the site of an explosion, with remnants of multi-layered Gu formations buried deep under it. ^{ch. 936}

Outside the desolate land of purple sand, large numbers of desolate plants and desolate beast corpses turn into purple sand once picked up. ^{ch. 972}
