Seven mortals escape the Door of Life and Death carrying Spectral Soul Demon Venerable’s cultivation experience as split souls of his main body, and once safely apart they found Shadow Sect and take the codenames Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Azure, Blue, and Purple. Years later, among the surviving members, Green blames himself for asking Azure to punish a merchant in treasure yellow heaven, a lesson that let Azure fall into a love trap and exposed their main body; Purple consoles him that the trap is heaven’s will’s doing, not his fault. After Azure survives a first failed tribulation, Green warns the group not to look down on heaven’s will, asking whether the lessons of past years were not enough. ^{ch. 1016}

Researching inside a huge formation hidden in Northern Plains’ Earth Trench, Green refuses to abandon an immortal fetus Gu he calls his life’s work even as the formation explodes around him, until Yellow drags him out and shows him that the surviving rank eight immortal materials are saturated with heaven’s will. Green realizes his own judgment had already been swayed by that heaven’s will, and Yellow tells him only a complete otherworldly demon can go fully undetected, so they give up the attempt to start over. ^{ch. 1017} Fang Yuan later reasons that Green discarded every immortal material touched by that explosion rather than risk further contamination, reading his rejection of them as evidence of a deeper problem with heaven’s will’s reach. ^{ch. 1095}

Change soul Immortal Gu, a rank seven Immortal Gu that can switch two souls, was first refined by Green during Shadow Sect’s first generation before it passed to Spirit Affinity House’s Fairy Mo Yao. ^{ch. 1397}
