Chou Jiu says he and his senior sister Chen Jiu cultivated together and entered deep into the Door of Life and Death to capture life Gu and death Gu. ^{ch. 385}

A Legends of Ren Zu excerpt states that the door had two routes, a road of life and a road of death, and that either one was thick with suffering Gu. Before Red Lotus Demon Venerable broke fate Gu, the souls of the world were sucked directly into the door, and once it was broken they no longer were, which is how zombies were born. ^{ch. 722}

In Southern Border, narration calls Shadow Sect’s base Life and death blessed land, and says that land contained the Door of Life and Death, with a dream realm in front of the door. ^{ch. 984}

Fang Yuan states that the Door of Life and Death is inside Shadow Sect’s blessed land, and that Shadow Sect’s blessed land is at Southern Border’s Yi Tian Mountain, then engulfed by a giant dream realm. ^{ch. 1092}
