Sea Oath Gu is a rank six Gu famous in ancient times as a pair with Mountain Pledge Gu.
On San Cha Mountain, when Fang Yuan corners Chou Jiu over the Door of Life and Death, Chou Jiu refuses to speak because he has vowed before the sea oath Gu not to reveal the details to outsiders, or he will turn to dust. ch. 384
Form and rank
Chapter 384 does not describe its finished body shape, size, or color. It names sea oath Gu a rank six Immortal Gu. ch. 384
Effect
Together with Mountain Pledge Gu, it works like Poison Vow Gu, but Poison Vow Gu is an expenditure Gu while these two can be used repeatedly. Fang Yuan names an obvious weakness: the oath must face the sea, and destroying that piece of ocean ends the oath’s effect. ch. 384
Path
Chapter 384 does not assign sea oath Gu a named cultivation path.
Chou Jiu’s oath
Chou Jiu’s sea is inside Shadow Sect’s blessed land, which closes a loop: naming that blessed land’s location would already break the vow he cannot speak past. Fang Yuan tests him and concludes the sea oath is real, because Chou Jiu still will not name the place even when frantic. ch. 384
Bai Ning Bing’s Shadow Sect oath
Bai Ning Bing agrees to Chou Jiu’s request and temporarily joins Shadow Sect, making an oath in front of the Immortal Gu Sea Oath Gu with Old Man Yan Shi and Chou Jiu: she is free to leave once they kill Fang Yuan, and Shadow Sect cannot move against her directly or indirectly. ch. 468
