Northern Dark Ice Soul

Soul fragments cut from Ren Zu by Luo Po wind converge into a youth, and Ren Zu’s third son is born as Northern Dark Ice Soul. The telling gives him a cold appearance and a warm-hearted, quiet manner. Born in Luo Po Valley, he is unhurt by Luo Po wind and can see through bewilderment fog. Unexpected Gu forcibly takes him out through the Door of Life and Death into the human world and gives him a flesh body. Cognition Gu then points him to Cheng Bai mountain and to Desolate Ancient Moon, and he seeks his elder sister first. ^{ch. 567}

He awakens Desolate Ancient Moon, and the siblings ask cognition Gu and then wisdom Gu how to save Ren Zu. Desolate Ancient Moon gives her middle age to wisdom Gu; Northern Dark Ice Soul cannot stop her. They reach the still blue sea of life Gu. After she sacrifices herself into a damaged human-shaped blue gem, he holds the gem and leaves the golden desert in tears. ^{ch. 591}

A Legends of Ren Zu summary calls him Ren Zu’s third son, revived by unexpected Gu, and says he gave Desolate Ancient Moon a new meaning in life before her sacrifice. Carrying the life gem, he cannot enter the Door of Life and Death without courage Gu, which is already with Ren Zu. Guilt and anxiety drive him until he walks into black heaven, finds fire Gu, feeds it, and uses its light on the return path. ^{ch. 722}

In black heaven he obtains fire Gu, then a dream realm swallows him. His desire to survive and to revive Ren Zu, plus guilt over Desolate Ancient Moon, make him ideal prey for dream realms that feed on emotions and desires. Fire Gu melts the dream realm and frees him, but he refuses restraint and seeks another dream realm to swallow him again. ^{ch. 724}

Qin Bai Sheng later cites the legend that Northern Dark Ice Soul entered black heaven by passing Ascending Heaven Plain. ^{ch. 751}
