Form and rank
It is a slender white snake covered in snow white scales, with jade-like eyes and long whiskers on both sides of its head that float like celestial ribbons. It is rank five white form immortal snake Gu when it rises from the spring. It likes cleanliness, and its food is the water of the spirit spring; it has lived secretly in that spring. ch. 173
Inheritance role
Before the first generation ancestor passed away, that ancestor set up a secret inheritance and left this snake Gu as a clue. If a Gu Master gains its approval, it opens the secret inheritance; if not, it kills the Gu Master. Clan secret records say that once a Gu Master obtains approval, the Gu flies with the inheritor and opens the inheritance in the sky. ch. 173
On Bai Ning Bing’s first meeting it enters the aperture instead of killing him, and it occupies the central area of the primeval essence, forcing surrounding Gu aside. That entry does not match the records’ flight to the sky inheritance, which leaves the clan leader puzzled. ch. 173
Smoke and early use
Bai Ning Bing concludes that the Gu sensed the Northern Dark Ice Soul physique and entered the aperture for that reason, and that the physique can attract water-type Gu worms. The Gu is not refined by Bai Ning Bing. It comes out to protect only when mortal danger is near, and that protection has limits. ch. 178
Its named ability is a lump of white smoke shot from its mouth. After being enshrouded, a target cannot tell directions, and vision is dyed white; the smoke follows like a shadow. Against a frenzy lightning wolf, that smoke blinds the beast, but a thunderbolt still hits Bai Ning Bing because the snake cannot react in time. The text states it is not a defensive Gu. While it stays unmoved toward the inheritance, Bai Ning Bing treats that as a sign of not being fated to receive the first generation ancestor’s inheritance. ch. 178
Three-clan battle and escape
During the three-clan competition, the Gu leaves Bai Ning Bing’s aperture, floats in mid-air, and Bai Ning Bing rides its back against Fang Yuan on Thousand Li Earthwolf Spider. The two rank five Gu collide at close range while the riders fight above them. Both Gu take great damage. The snake is still not refined by Bai Ning Bing, only attracted by the Northern Dark Ice Soul physique. It then spits white fog over the battlefield, throws Bai Ning Bing off, and leaves. ch. 190
After that flight there is no news of it. ch. 200 Later travel notes again that Bai Ning Bing used White Form Immortal Snake Gu as a rank five mobile Gu, and that this copy escaped. ch. 206
Reappearance and bloodline clue
Ying Wu Xie tosses Bai Ning Bing a rank five mortal Gu that Bai Ning Bing recognizes as white form immortal snake. Ying Wu Xie calls it a crucial clue in the old bet of the Heaven Surveying Five Xiangs, and states that Bai Ning Bing is the last bloodline descendant of Bai Xiang with status to participate. ch. 1166
Guidance role
Later instruction from Shadow Sect states that after a bloodline descendant of Bai Xiang becomes a Gu Immortal, this white form immortal snake can guide them to Bai Xiang grotto-heaven. The Gu is again a rank five mortal Gu, slender with snow white scales, jade-like eyes, and long whiskers, and it is very attached to Bai Ning Bing, likely from Northern Dark Ice Soul attraction. When Bai Ning Bing releases Gu Immortal aura, the snake hisses, flies underfoot of its own accord, and carries the rider into the sky toward that secret. Bai Ning Bing then reads the old clan record’s “secret place in the sky” as Bai Xiang’s grotto-heaven, with Gu Immortal status as the approval condition. ch. 1194
