At Qin Bai Sheng’s auction he buys Ma Hong Yun, while Feng Jiu Ge buys Zhao Lian Yun. He shows that wealth only at the end of the auction. ^{ch. 761}

He has soul searched Ma Hong Yun and says he knows all of the lad’s history. He tells Lady Wan Shou that the difficulty every peak head meets in collecting the immortal materials comes from Fortune Rivalling Heaven, which backlashes at any act that would harm its owner and suppresses their luck, and that the longer it drags on the more uncertain the refinement becomes. By his plan she will use Ma Hong Yun as the main material, several sets of Gu refinement immortal materials are prepared, and other luck path Immortal Gu will protect their own luck. He says he has used up all his potential to reach this level and has no confidence in his future calamities and tribulations, so fortune rivalling heaven Gu is his hope of breaking that situation, and he will accept the result either way. ^{ch. 772}

He mobilises the number one demonic force in Northern Plains, the full power of Snowy Mountain blessed land, to join the plan to refine rank eight fortune rivalling heaven Immortal Gu, and Northern Plains’ Gu Immortal world already knows of it. ^{ch. 776}

When Heavenly Lord Bai Zu arrives to work together with Yao Huang and tells Old Ancestor Xue Hu to return Miniscule Mountain to the righteous path, he invites the pair to attack together and fights both of them inside white heaven. His grand frost energy takes the upper hand in a short time, Heavenly Lord Bai Zu concedes and Yao Huang breaks off, and Feng Jiu Ge admires aloud that he fought one against two and grasped victory so quickly. He tells Lady Wan Shou the two coveted Fortune Rivalling Heaven and did not want him to refine it, and asks her to repair the sky he tore open so that desolate beasts do not descend through the crack. ^{ch. 813}

Northern Plains Zombie Alliance turns its attention to the demonic path Gu Immortals of Snowy Mountain blessed land, assaulting them to stop them obtaining Gu refinement immortal materials so that he would suffer. ^{ch. 931}

To refine the rank eight fortune rivalling heaven Immortal Gu he is already going bankrupt looking for the supplementary immortal materials, even with Ma Hong Yun as the main material. Were it not for that, he would not have thrown away his face as a rank eight great expert and gone to Zombie Alliance’s graveyard to steal immortal zombie corpses in place of the materials. Fang Yuan judges that if he knew how large a store of precious immortal materials Fang Yuan held, he would forget his face and come to make trouble in a hurry. ^{ch. 936}

The Gu formation in Snowy Mountain blessed land is not his work. He went in person to ask Northern Plains’ number one formation path Gu Immortal, Sun Ming Lu, for help, and when the righteous path Gu Immortal refused he put down his status and asked repeatedly rather than force him. Sun Ming Lu gave way only at the seventh invitation, when he spoke of Lady Wan Shou, because Sun Ming Lu treasured love and loyalty and was touched that the refinement path Gu formation was for a beloved wife. In Fang Yuan’s previous life Sun Ming Lu died when Central Continent’s Gu Immortals broke the Gu formation he had set against them, and the biography written of him afterwards records that invitation clearly. ^{ch. 937}

Gu Immortals discussing Zhao Lian Yun report that by their intelligence he has already gathered enough immortal materials and will start the refinement soon. ^{ch. 954}

Fang Yuan names him the rank eight backer of Xue Song Zi, a rank six member of Snowy Mountain blessed land, and in the same breath says He Lang Zi once rejected a recruitment offer from him. ^{ch. 979}

He is caught stealing immortal zombie corpses in Earth Trench when the fleeing Blazing Glory Lightning Brilliance immortal zombie stumbles onto him there. A battle follows in which the immortal zombie is captured, while Old Ancestor Xue Hu is exposed and draws the rage of Zombie Alliance. ^{ch. 990}

He is desperately trying to pass the first myriad tribulation and has spared no expense refining fortune rivalling heaven Immortal Gu, while Heavenly Lord Bai Zu and Yao Huang are still far away from that tribulation. ^{ch. 1007}

He and his wife Lady Wan Shou begin refining fortune rivalling heaven Immortal Gu at Snowy Mountain blessed land. ^{ch. 1144}

Hair Mistress tells invading Central Continent Gu Immortals that he recently invited Sun Ming Lu to arrange a super Gu formation at Snowy Mountain blessed land. By her account he has recklessly modified the blessed land to refine fortune rivalling heaven Immortal Gu, and has forced the snowy peak lords to gather immortal materials for his own private interests. ^{ch. 1250}

Knowing he cannot use battlefield killer moves inside the Gu formation, he takes his signature battlefield killer move apart, breathing out two lumps of near black cold air that raise a blizzard in which his hailstone snow monsters can soar while Bi Chen Tian is left restricted. A watching Central Continent rank eight judges from it that his ice and snow path attainment is probably already at great grandmaster level. He is the strongest expert among the rank eights of the current Northern Plains, but he must also protect the fate reversing sacrificial refinement formation, and Edge Link Camp’s turtle shell defence denies him a fatal move for some time. ^{ch. 1269}

When the formation breaks apart and Reverse Flow River sweeps the battlefield, he tries to charge back to the first peak for his wife and is engulfed by the river on the way. No Gu worm can be activated inside that river, so he cannot defend himself and is washed away by the rushing tides. ^{ch. 1271}

Swimming through Reverse Flow River with Purple Mountain True Monarch sitting on his shoulder, he answers grimly that Sun Ming Lu made the Gu formation, and says Sun Ming Lu is a member of Longevity Heaven. He says he needs to find his wife. ^{ch. 1275}

He is in the second group with Purple Mountain True Monarch and Lady Wan Shou, chasing Ma Hong Yun in order to capture him, and he tells Ma Hong Yun coldly that he cannot escape. He catches up right behind Zhao Lian Yun’s group. Out of strength and unwilling to burden Ma Hong Yun, Zhao Lian Yun breaks free of his grasp and swims towards Old Ancestor Xue Hu instead. ^{ch. 1278}

Mu Ling Lan seizes him by the waist and holds him in place, and though he kicks at Mu Ling Lan’s chest in the water he stops moving forward and is pushed back by the river until he falls behind to the third group. Mu Ling Lan’s bones break under those kicks and more than ten breaths later he stops breathing and dies, which brings the furious Central Continent Gu Immortals onto Old Ancestor Xue Hu at once. The fight is his own plan to obstruct the Central Continent Gu Immortals while Purple Mountain True Monarch swims upstream after Ma Hong Yun and Zhao Lian Yun. When Lady Wan Shou faints from her injuries he stops swimming, carries her out of Reverse Flow River, steadies her with his Gu Immortal methods and places her in his immortal aperture. Narration calls him the number one person in Northern Plains’ demonic path and a ruthless one, who would not pass up the chance to strike his weakened opponents, and he charges Bi Chen Tian. ^{ch. 1279}

Hei Lou Lan tells him that the Northern Plains Gu Immortal who foiled his plan is Liu Guan Yi, the other identity Fang Yuan uses, and he is stunned for a moment though not too concerned about him, unlike the rank eights who are the real obstacles to refining Fortune Rivalling Heaven. He then offers terms: if Liu Guan Yi can capture Ma and Zhao, he will allow him to become the third peak lord of Snowy Mountain, and he says he holds his word and will back him so that his cultivation journey is smooth. ^{ch. 1282}

He demands Reverse Flow River and offers Fang Yuan his life as a slave for surrender or, for resistance, a state in which he will not be allowed to die even when he wants to, arguing that the river is not a living being, that reflecting attacks consumes its water, and that it will eventually dry up. Fang Yuan answers that Central Continent’s Gu Immortals were the ones who foiled the Gu refinement and Longevity Heaven’s trap may also be in it, that Snowy Mountain blessed land is destroyed and this refinement failed, that Reverse Flow River is now his, and that if Xue Hu dies from tribulation or is even heavily injured his enemies will be overjoyed and Lady Wan Shou will grieve. Fang Yuan offers to lend him Reverse Flow River and to work together on the ground that the two of them alone among those present are demonic path, and says that as long as Xue Hu lives he can build another Snowy Mountain blessed land and snatch the materials to refine Gu again. He is moved, because what Fang Yuan said was right and, furious as he is, he has not lost his reasoning. With nobody present strong enough to settle the deadlock his attitude becomes the crucial thing, and he says they can make an alliance. ^{ch. 1286}

Fang Yuan finds Ma Hong Yun’s soul untouched, because Old Ancestor Xue Hu wanted to use Ma Hong Yun to refine Fortune Rivalling Heaven and needed him healthy. It was Ma Hong Yun’s knowledge of the Immortal Gu recipe that he learned of after buying him, and that gave him the intention to refine fortune rivalling heaven Immortal Gu. ^{ch. 1304}

After the Northern Plains battle, Fang Yuan takes it as certain that reverse flow protection seal is being studied by the ten great ancient sects, by Longevity Heaven, by Old Ancestor Xue Hu, and by others, and tells himself to use it with some care next time, especially against these people. ^{ch. 1312}

Publicly the number one battle strength in Northern Plains, he takes a risk that destroys Snowy Mountain: refining Fortune Rivalling Heaven fails, Reverse Flow River is taken away, and his wife Lady Wan Shou is injured. ^{ch. 1362} As a present-day rank eight Gu Immortal he is a snow path great grandmaster who can take immortal killer moves apart at will, and at the battle of Reverse Flow River he nimbly took his own trump card battlefield killer move apart to meet Heavenly Court and other enemies, gaining the upper hand. ^{ch. 1502}

After Snowy Mountain’s destruction he goes missing with his wife. ^{ch. 1546}

He keeps great battle strength as Northern Plains’ number one demonic Gu Immortal, yet holds no rank eight Immortal Gu. ^{ch. 1791}
