Chapter 638

Immortal Gu normally need immortal essence to activate, and even a will alone cannot usually activate Gu worms, Giant Sun’s will included. Wisdom Gu follows just below the hand, and the deadlock between Fang Yuan and Hei Lou Lan sits lower still. The righteous path Gu Immortals there, blind to the giant hand’s true identity and driven only by greed, grab for the Immortal Gu regardless of any earlier agreement to share it fairly, since a verbal agreement is fragile before huge profit. The scene grows even more chaotic as righteous and demonic factions clash, the luck path true inheritance changing hands again and again while Ma Hong Yun and Zhao Lian Yun remain in mortal danger. One Gu Immortal shouts for the fighting to stop. More Immortal Gu surely remain inside the wind veil, he warns. Another warns the three immortals of Chanyu tribe, led by Tong Zu, that the wind veil is closing. They glance down and find the tear, opened wide by winged blade, already shrinking to a thin crack. Tong Zu had estimated eight breaths for the cut to close, and it takes about that long. Using winged blade again could reopen the tear, but the move costs a great deal of immortal essence, so the three Chanyu immortals hold off, keeping it in reserve to intimidate their enemies instead. ^{ch. 638}

Hei tribe’s Gu Immortal Hei Bai loses his composure as the wind veil closes and asks Gu Immortal Hei Cheng what they should do. Hei Cheng stays silent, his expression unsightly. Hei Bai has long sought the Immortal Gu Wooden Chicken and had word from Hei Lou Lan that he already obtained it, but with the wind veil closing and Hei Lou Lan never having taken the chance to escape, the plan seems fruitless. ^{ch. 638}

Hei Cheng himself has no way to cut the wind veil open. His voice turns gloomy as he tells Hei Bai there is still a chance, since the formless hands inside are extremely likely to have seized wooden chicken Gu. When the hands travel through space and exhaust their energy, the Gu worms they captured are freed. Gu Immortals’ powers of investigation are far stronger than those of Gu Masters, and after the tear opened they immediately sensed the dangers inside, but the formless hands kept them from daring to enter.
