Hei Tribe

A Northern Plains tribe first named when Fang Yuan recalls Hei Lou Lan as its tribe leader in prior-life memory of the Imperial Court struggle.

Appearance

Hei tribe fields black banner troops, named as an elite force with three commanders.^{ch. 498} When deployed they move like a black blade across the battlefield, and they ride battle horses.^{ch. 532} The text does not draw a banner design beyond that troop name.

On the battlefield against Dong Fang tribe, a twin-headed hill-sized rhino carries Hei tribe’s main tent on its back.^{ch. 508}

First naming

Prior-life memory places Hei Lou Lan as the winner of the northern plains contest who holds the imperial court for ten years and is remembered as the grassland’s most controversial lord. The same recollection has him killed secretly after only two years as lord, after tribesmen lure him outside the imperial court, then all tribes ally to overthrow Hei tribe’s rule and contend again for the imperial court seat through five years of bloodshed.^{ch. 427}

Yu Tian contest

At Yu Tian heroes assembly the text places Hei tribe’s Hei Lou Lan opposite Liu tribe’s Liu Wen Wu as one of the two remaining strong sides.^{ch. 497}

Hei Xiu Yi is named part of Hei Lou Lan’s direct family line, one of three black banner troop commanders, and Hei tribe supreme elder’s grand-nephew’s son.^{ch. 498}

Wolf King joins

When Wolf King Chang Shan Yin joins him, Hei Lou Lan greets him by name and reputation. Undecided tribes begin submitting toward Hei tribe, and Hei tribe people cheer the alliance.^{ch. 499}

Alliance expansion

After the wolf army reaches Hei tribe camp, Hei Lou Lan holds long feasts and the Hei tribe alliance works to expand the wolf pack.^{ch. 500}

Hei Fan grotto-heaven’s people

The Gu Masters and mortals living in Hei Fan grotto-heaven are all descendants of Hei tribe’s criminal immortals. Fang Yuan kills all of them, planning to feed their collected souls to Dang Hun Mountain.^{ch. 1133}

Annexed by Bai Zu tribe

Eleven Huang Jin tribes remain, and Hei tribe is one of the two that are no longer counted among them. Many Hei tribe Gu Immortals survive, but the tribe is annexed by Bai Zu tribe. Its tribe name is discarded, and it is no longer acknowledged by the other Huang Jin tribes, being cast aside and disdained.^{ch. 1193}
