Hei Pei

When the Hei tribe elders stay silent after Hei Lou Lan demands a method for the 54th round of Eighty-Eight True Yang Building, Hei Pei walks out and bows. He reads that round as an enslavement path test that needs master level attainment and urges calling Wolf King rather than relying on elder Hei Qi Sheng. The other elders praise his eloquence for that reply. He later presses attendant Hei Shu for failing to bring Wolf King back at once, then reads Wolf King’s delay as haughty fronting. ^{ch. 556}

Opening the building

He waits out Hei Lou Lan’s fury over the golden-white tiger phantom round, then warns that opening the building to other Huang Jin bloodline forces risks them keeping gains. He also warns that an open torrent will cause disastrous losses and points to Wolf King Chang Shan Yin as the lesson already before them. His plan, accepted by Hei Lou Lan, opens entry from the next day with a fee, a daily quota of eight hundred, rising fees by entry order, poison vow Gu to hand Hei tribe fifty percent of gains, and costly guest tokens for outsiders. ^{ch. 562}

Guest tokens and the aurora scare

Once the building opens, he handles the matter and becomes a focus of secret visits, bribes, and favors. He escorts Tai Bai Yun Sheng from a secret door and promises him a guest token, then wonders privately that even northern plains’ number one healer came to bribe him. ^{ch. 563} When the building’s aurora later fails and shrinks, Hei Lou Lan seizes his collar and orders an investigation; Hei Pei answers in fear that he is only a mortal and that historical records show no such case. He and the other elders go pale as cracks spread on the first floor, and he clutches his hair when the floor collapses, asking if the heavens want Hei tribe dead. ^{ch. 564}
