When Hei Lou Lan needs Wolf King Chang Shan Yin for the 54th round of Eighty-Eight True Yang Building, he calls for Hei Shu from outside the hall and sends him to invite the Wolf King. He returns empty-handed at first, then shows a star letter Gu reply: Chang Shan Yin is hunting with his wolves and will not cut the habit short. ch. 556

He later stands to report that Pan Ping and Chang Biao entered the seventh floor and cannot be found in the maze. ch. 582 As a trusted aide he kneels to brief Hei Lou Lan on Chang tribe killings, Chang Ji You’s weak hold, and Chang Shan Yin’s stay in the seventh floor’s ninetieth maze round. ch. 587 Each day in one stretch he reports movements of great experts in the sacred palace, and he makes public Hei Lou Lan’s order to close True Yang Building until the sixty-eighth floor is broken. ch. 593 During later advancement he also relays thirteen tribe leaders’ request to halt for rest, which Hei Lou Lan rejects. ch. 604

He enters covered in blood and reports that the black banner army has settled a matter for Hei Lou Lan; when Tai Bai Yun Sheng presses him, he stays silent and shows disdain for Tai Bai Yun Sheng’s compassion. He moves to strike when Tai Bai Yun Sheng rises in anger, until Hei Lou Lan stops him, and he later asks whether to surveil Tai Bai Yun Sheng. He also stumbles in later to name Tai Bai Yun Sheng as the cause of a grand disturbance around the sacred palace. ch. 605
