A land spirit is a blessed land's own will: formed from a dead Gu Immortal's remnants, able to rule that land from within and decide who inherits it.
A blessed land with a land spirit has its own will. Even a Gu Immortal cannot take such a land by raw force. Land spirits are innocent and stubborn, and they inherit their original master’s obsession. If a Gu Immortal attacks anyway, the land spirit may self-destruct and destroy the blessed land, leaving the attacker injured and empty-handed. ch. 366
Inside the blessed land the land spirit blends with the land and can control it like an immortal deity. Controlling the land spirit means controlling the blessed land. Gu Immortals who enter face the land spirit’s counterattack, so many inheritances instead send mortal disciples to satisfy the spirit’s tests. ch. 366
How a land spirit forms
After a Gu Immortal dies, remaining fragments of will and soul mix with the blessed land’s powers and form that spiritual body. The Hu Immortal land spirit comes from the former Gu Immortal Bai Hu. She lacks her past life’s memories and keeps only lingering desires. Inside that blessed land she can manipulate heavenly power freely, combat a Gu Immortal directly, and seal any rank one to five Gu worm at will. Only rank six Immortal Gu can move freely there. The land spirit cannot leave the blessed land. Within the land it is an existence equal to a Gu Immortal, and becoming owner gains its loyalty. Decay without a spirit
Every blessed land faces an earthly calamity every ten years and a heavenly tribulation every hundred years. A land spirit can prolong a blessed land near the end of its lifespan. Without one, the land is an enormous sinking boat: anyone can enter and plunder, and exhaustion of immortal essence finishes the collapse. ch. 374
Obsession and ownership
Ba Gui of the three kings inheritance shows the ownership rule in practice. An ancient strength path Gu Immortal died resisting a tribulation; his dying wish gathered with the blessed land’s heavenly power and formed that land spirit. Completing the wish gains the spirit’s recognition and makes the fated person the new owner. The land spirit is no longer human, only the immortal’s will. Once the requirement is met, recognition transfers the blessed land. ch. 377
Pure speech
Land spirits are pure: yes means yes, and no means no. Fang Yuan does not treat Lang Ya land spirit as capable of lying when the spirit claims it already holds a recipe. That same innocence and sincerity can look childish or clingy in trade, but the underlying rule still holds. ch. 462
Shared formation rules
A land spirit or heavenly spirit is formed by the Gu Immortal’s obsession fused with the immortal aperture’s heavenly power. Because of that obsession, land spirits and heavenly spirits have an ownership acknowledgement requirement, and they cannot lie. They can still speak wrong information they believe is true. ch. 1228 Blessed lands have land spirits; grotto-heavens have heavenly spirits. ch. 1411
