A heavenly spirit is a grotto-heaven's own will: it controls that grotto-heaven and can summon its full defenses against invaders.
The heavenly spirit controls all aspects of the grotto-heaven and detects entrants. ch. 715 A living heavenly spirit can summon the entire defensive power of its grotto-heaven. ch. 713
Missing spirit
If the Gu Immortal who owns the grotto-heaven survives as an immortal zombie instead of dying cleanly, the heavenly spirit may not appear at all. ch. 725
Will after death
Even a dull heavenly spirit can carry the dead master’s will: Hei Fan grotto-heaven’s brass bell heavenly spirit welcomes a fated inheritor and directs guests, showing that it is not completely unreliable even when mindless. ch. 1120 It firmly carries on Hei Fan’s will after his death, and Gu Immortals who seek its help with tribulations can fall under its control through methods left in the true inheritance. ch. 1121 Absorbing a fragment of an immemorial heaven can let heaven’s will enter and strip the heavenly spirit of intelligence. ch. 1152 ch. 1334
Formation and rules
A land spirit or heavenly spirit is formed by the Gu Immortal’s obsession fused with the immortal aperture’s heavenly power. Because of that obsession, land spirits and heavenly spirits have an ownership acknowledgement requirement, and they cannot lie. They can still speak wrong information they believe is true. ch. 1228 A heavenly spirit is like a land spirit in that it will not lie. ch. 1689 Blessed lands have land spirits; grotto-heavens have heavenly spirits. ch. 1411
Heavens’ own spirits
Black heaven’s and white heaven’s heavenly spirits originate from the immemorial two heavens. They hold authority and control over those skies the way a land spirit or grotto-heaven heavenly spirit holds authority over its ground. ch. 2233
Land spirits for blessed lands are covered on land spirit. Blessed lands and grotto-heavens as apertures are covered on blessed lands and grotto-heavens.
