Giant Sun's retaliation
Inside True Yang Building, Frost Jade Peacock throws all its strength against the seal, three of the black chains binding it break, and the green paste on it melts through. Giant Sun’s will curses the little sparrow for daring this. Frost Jade Peacock screams back that Giant Sun imprisoned it for hundreds of thousands of years even after his own death, and today it means to break free. ch. 608
Ten thousand special will Gu wall off Giant Sun’s flaring will like a dam, but within a few breaths they have been swallowed to their limit, and the dam shatters. Giant Sun’s will, though restrained, is too vast to hold: it destroys them and moves to seize control of the building. Fifty thousand more special will Gu surround it at once, and Giant Sun’s will breaks that encirclement too before a third wave, over a hundred thousand strong, closes around it. Restraint is relative, and water can be evaporated by a fire fierce enough. ch. 608
Central continent’s Gu Immortals spent thousands of years on this, several great forces joining hands to buy up and refine special will Gu without pause at enormous cost. That whole stockpile is now working for Fang Yuan. ch. 608
Trapped a third time, Giant Sun’s will stops raging and starts to think. A will condensed from an Immortal Venerable still knows how to reason, and it soon finds a flaw in the encirclement. Special will Gu are refined Gu and cannot draw primeval essence from the air, so Giant Sun’s will realizes they must be running on immortal essence instead. A single bead of the lowest grade rank six green grape immortal essence converts to nearly unlimited primeval essence. Breaking their link to that immortal essence would leave the special will Gu with little threat, but first Giant Sun’s will must grasp the whole Gu formation feeding them, and he traces over ten clues toward its structure. ch. 608
Gruel Mud keeps melting Frost Jade Peacock’s seals, and its chains rattle. Four more black chains on its wings collapse in a row. Frost Jade Peacock cries to break the last three, and Giant Sun’s will, mid-thought, halts in alarm. If the land spirit throws off his control, Imperial Court blessed land’s protection lifts and countless Gu Immortals could rush in to loot True Yang Building, a swarm of ants against one elephant that even its remaining immortal essence could not hold off. Giant Sun’s will has no way to stop the land spirit yet, its probing attacks having recovered only limited ground. ch. 608
Outside, the earthly calamity lofty tiger roars and leaps, its huge claws slamming toward Tai Bai Yun Sheng, who dodges but still feels the blow of the wind it throws. The heavenly tribulation willow winds drift down at the same time, slow looking but fast and destructive, and three earlier hits have already destroyed all of his defensive Gu. Struggling against tiger and willow winds together, he grows short of ways to continue, in real danger of dying. The crowd murmurs in worry. Fang Yuan, uneasy himself, forces open his luck inspection Gu despite the backlash risk. Tai Bai Yun Sheng’s fiery luck is still burning, but a quarter of it suddenly fades. ch. 608
A light pillar erupts from True Yang Building, shatters the willow winds back into heaven qi, then chases down the lofty tiger until it shrinks to nothing. Some in the crowd cheer that the old ancestor is protecting Tai Bai Yun Sheng, while others scoff that he carries no drop of Giant Sun’s bloodline. Ye Lui Sang wonders aloud if this is the rumored divert disaster Gu. Hei Lou Lan, excited, explains that the luck path’s divert disaster Gu can divert heavenly tribulations and earthly calamities or destroy them outright, and wishes aloud that he could obtain it. ch. 608
Divert disaster Gu is a cornerstone of Eighty-Eight True Yang Building. It is also one of the few methods Giant Sun’s will can currently mobilize. He forces out another trace of yellow apricot immortal essence and, after using divert disaster Gu, also activates the human qi Immortal Gu inside the true inheritance secluded domain, dropping Tai Bai Yun Sheng’s burning luck by a further quarter. That Gu shines white light on Tai Bai Yun Sheng and instantly multiplies his human qi tenfold, which in turn pulls in far more heaven qi and earth qi from Imperial Court blessed land. Delighted at the unexpected help, Tai Bai Yun Sheng absorbs it all, and his risk eases as his future prospects grow. ch. 608
Frost Jade Peacock cries out, weakened as its qi drains away. Giant Sun’s will taunts the little sparrow for still being too green, having spent everything he could extract on this one crucial move to relieve the danger. The tide turns in his favor, and the land spirit’s weakness buys him time to finish grasping the special will Gu formation. Once he breaks that encirclement, undoing the immortal essence seal would be easy, and Eighty-Eight True Yang Building could show the full might of a rank eight Gu House. ch. 608
Watching through the glass owner token, Fang Yuan realizes he has underestimated an Immortal Venerable’s will. His heart sinks. He now has less than half of his expected time left, and his only remaining hope is that Tai Bai Yun Sheng quickly becomes a Gu Immortal and refines landscape as before Gu. ch. 608
