Gruel Mud

Gruel Mud is a rank six Immortal Gu of the one-time expenditure type. Its power turns mountain rock into mud and can linger in that mud without showing Immortal Gu aura.

During an earthly calamity in Hu Immortal blessed land, a desolate beast swamp crab spews mud that later corrodes Dang Hun Mountain. Flesh contact does nothing; crushed gutstones show yellow mud eating rock until the rock shrinks away.^{ch. 425}

Lower-rank Gruel Mud Gu forms naturally. Gruel Mud Gu is common at rank one and two, stays popular at rank three and four for building cities, and rank five Masters sometimes use it when they lack a better rank five Gu. The Gu can only be used on mud. The swamp crab had lived in a swamp made by that effect, ate and defecated that mud daily, and so carried the ability into the blessed land.^{ch. 425}

After the crab dies, large amounts of mud have already seeped into the mountain, so the corrosion is easy to miss. Clearing surface mud slows the danger; removing the root needs Immortal Gu power.^{ch. 425}

Recipe trade

Mud cleared from Dang Hun Mountain still holds Gruel Mud Immortal Gu power and is a needed ingredient for refining that Immortal Gu. Gu Immortals in treasure yellow heaven call Gruel Mud a one-time consumable Gu and treat the recipe as more important than the worm itself.^{ch. 469}

Lang Ya exchange

At Lang Ya blessed land, Fang Yuan exchanges for an expendable rank six Immortal Gu and chooses Immortal Gu Gruel Mud from five offered Immortal Gu, the same Gu whose power had been killing Dang Hun Mountain. He stores it in his pouch rather than his aperture.^{ch. 487}

Vital Gu and backlash

Besides Spring Autumn Cicada he holds Fixed Immortal Travel and Gruel Mud. Gruel Mud is expendable: making it a vital Gu would bring heavy backlash after it is used up.^{ch. 494}

Seal corrosion

Facing the sealed land spirit Frost Jade Peacock, Fang Yuan takes Gruel Mud from his pocket. Though rank six, as an expenditure Gu it needs no immortal essence; he squeezes it and it shatters, releasing brown-green light that fuses into the divine bird statue. Mo Yao’s will names Gruel Mud a direct counter to the remaining strength of rank seven Earth Prison and Earth Net, which sealed the land spirit. The green paste on the statue’s head slowly melts into green-black gruel mud on the white jade floor.^{ch. 602}
