Chapter 733

He notes it is the mortal foundation for the immortal killer move thousand li eye, which needs a matching Immortal Gu. Lion fur armor covers his body and wings in bronze plate topped with a lion head helmet, raising his defense but slowing him. Combining it with true solid bat wings is beyond him. Balancing the three paths’ dao marks for the armor alone already sits at the limit of his master attainment in transformation path. Fang Yuan’s blood path attainment reached grandmaster only after centuries of practice in his previous life. He and Hei Lou Lan cannot yet beat Immortal Monkey King Shi Lei, who has built nearly three hundred years of experience since becoming a Gu Immortal, against their own recent rise. Even so, both already fight at the upper tier of rank six because each borrowed a predecessor’s accumulation. Fang Yuan recalls a passage from The Legends of Ren Zu. In it, Ren Zu walks the road of life through darkness over dirty mud and asks self Gu where he is. Self Gu answers that this is the ordinary marsh at the bottom of ordinary abyss, reached by an entirely new path of Ren Zu’s own making, not the road fate Gu walked. Ren Zu has in a way left the door of life and death without passing Luo Po valley or charging the reverse flow river. ^{ch. 733}

Looking closer, Ren Zu sees the marsh covered in the tracks of countless other creatures. Self Gu says all beings enter ordinary abyss for their own reasons and are themselves ordinary; almost all stay trapped there for life, and only a few leave through their own effort. Ren Zu says he does not want to stay. Self Gu tells him that only his own legs can walk him out and make him extraordinary. His first steps sink deep into the uneven marsh. He learns to plant his feet in the firmer claw marks, and moves almost as smoothly as running. He concludes that in the ordinary marsh, walking in the footsteps of those before him beats finding his own way. ^{ch. 733}

Back on the ground, Fang Yuan tests unfamiliar face. Little Hu Immortal had bought nearly all its Gu worms in treasure yellow heaven, and the hairy men refined the rest. It shrinks his six meter immortal zombie body to normal human height, retracts his extra arms to two, shortens his sharp teeth and lightens his scarlet eyes, though the immortal zombie body itself cannot be hidden. Fang Yuan is impressed that a mortal killer move alters an immortal body this much: a real physical change, not an illusion, down to a subtle shift in his aura. Feng Jin Huang challenges Fang Yuan to compete against her in refinement path at the coming Refinement Path Convention. Fang Yuan is puzzled, since she had shown no interest in refinement path before and had built almost no accumulation in it. He wonders whether she has discovered the true use of dream wings Immortal Gu. The thought unsettles him: in his previous life he gathered demonic path Gu Immortals to attack Hu Immortal blessed land for the sole purpose of killing Feng Jin Huang and seizing dream wings Immortal Gu. ^{ch. 733}
