In Northern Plains, Fang Yuan recalls that Ma Hong Yun gains the surname Ma only after saving Ma tribe’s young tribe leader, and that the name is not his earlier identity. He places Ma tribe in the Huang Jin bloodline left by Giant Sun Immortal Venerable. To vie for the imperial court, the tribe has been expanding in recent years by absorbing members of many tribes. At the time of that recollection Fang Yuan does not yet know Ma Hong Yun’s true identity and wonders whether the youth has already become a Ma tribe slave.^{ch. 441}
