Fang Yuan raises his soul by using guts Gu to strengthen it, tempering it in Luo Po Valley like iron to remove impurities, and then sleeping to rest the soul and shed agitation, and the three steps repeated lift his soul foundation like a rocket. Hundred million man soul is the limit of a human soul: at that mark the soul solidifies and can interfere directly with the real world instead of staying an illusory body, yet it is still fragile. The narration places that limit in the time before Red Lotus Demon Venerable, whose breaking of fate Gu also broke it, though no one found the way to advance and a million man soul was already amazing in those days. Fang Yuan, at ninety million man soul, expects the soul cores of one trip to carry him to hundred million man soul, and notes that this is only midway in the soul cultivation records of Spectral Soul’s true inheritance. ^{ch. 1505}

Spectral Soul Demon Venerable found the way beyond hundred million man soul, and above it lies desolate soul. Once a soul crosses into desolate soul, the soul alone has the strength of a desolate level soul beast, and cultivating it to the limit gives hundred million desolate soul, the peak of soul cultivation and the limit the world can contain. Fang Yuan has personally witnessed that level in the giant form of Spectral Soul’s main body, recorded as three headed thousand arms demon soul, and reaching it means quasi rank nine battle strength. ^{ch. 1505} According to Spectral Soul’s true inheritance, a thousand dao marks lie on the soul once it reaches desolate soul. ^{ch. 1628} Fang Yuan expects that with desolate soul he can match most desolate beasts with his soul alone. ^{ch. 1803}

Fang Yuan sends his hundred million man soul into a formation modified from a soul path technique recorded in Shadow Sect true inheritance, his soul crushes a processed desolate beast soul core inside it, and once the fog it releases has thinned away he has desolate soul. His human soul could float, but his desolate soul cannot fly and relies on Gu worms, and the Shadow Sect records say a human soul that reaches desolate soul cannot fly because humans are innately unable to. ^{ch. 1804} His soul then progresses from one desolate soul through three, five and eight desolate soul to ten desolate soul. ^{ch. 1808} With a desolate soul, exploring dream realms becomes much easier, since a human soul would take much heavier injuries. ^{ch. 1810} The supreme soul path cultivation method that Fang Yuan gained with Shadow Sect’s true inheritance divides soul cultivation into the human soul layer, from single man soul to hundred million man soul, and the desolate soul layer, which climbs from ten desolate soul through hundred, thousand, ten thousand, hundred thousand, million and ten million desolate soul to hundred million desolate soul. Fang Yuan’s soul stands at sixty million desolate soul. ^{ch. 2128} A human soul that becomes desolate soul gains beast nature, more exactly heaven nature, and at hundred million desolate soul the proportion of human nature is very low. ^{ch. 2265}
