Ha Tu Gu

The battlefield dates from about twenty years earlier. Chang Shan Yin was rank four peak stage; Ha Tu Gu was rank five initial stage and led a large band of subordinates. They had been childhood friends who loved the same woman; after she chose Chang Shan Yin, Ha Tu Gu poisoned Chang Shan Yin’s mother, and Chang Shan Yin entered the poisonous plains for snow wash Gu, then ambushed Ha Tu Gu and the bandits with wolf packs. After the wolves and horse bandits fell, both men fought bare handed until spent. Ha Tu Gu recovered primeval essence first, cast a poisonous bone spear into Chang Shan Yin’s chest, and Chang Shan Yin drove that same spear into Ha Tu Gu’s eyes and killed him. ^{ch. 431} After the fight, Battle Bone Wheel stayed damaged on the field as a wild Gu. Fang Yuan and Ge Yao wore it down together, and Fang Yuan subdued it there. ^{ch. 430} Later, while it is already his, he repairs its deepest crack with bone bamboo Gu. ^{ch. 445} Later talk still names Wolf King as the one who bypassed realms to kill rank five Gu Master Ha Tu Gu and his bandit group. ^{ch. 478}

Ge tribe elders later call Ha Tu Gu’s bandits savage looters who wiped out weaker tribes and livestock, and treat killing them as clearing a threat for Northern Plains righteous path. ^{ch. 440}

Fang Yuan’s letter to Ge Guang states that Chang Shan Yin’s mother was secretly poisoned, that Ha Tu Gu and his experts ambushed Chang Shan Yin on the road into poison grassland, and that the matter was a sinister plot from Chang tribe internal conflict meant to suppress Chang Shan Yin. ^{ch. 472} Chang Biao later admits that he and Ha Tu Gu cooperated and plotted against Chang Shan Yin so that Chang Ji You’s bloodline would not expose Chang Biao’s affair with Ni Xue Tong. ^{ch. 530}
