Ge Yao

She kills the thousand beast wolf king while gravely injured, then embraces Fang Yuan when he pretends to accept her. He stabs her through the chest, answers her with the Ren Zu rockman story, and waits until she dies. She leaves her Gu for him and asks for a final hug; he does not move. ^{ch. 435} Three days later the text confirms the killing was planned from the moment she saw Fixed Immortal Travel, that wolves ate her corpse, and that burial soul toad sent her soul to be crushed on Dang Hun Mountain. ^{ch. 436} Fang Yuan never takes the Gu from her aperture, because the water path set had been marked by Ge tribe’s rank five hints and clues Gu and would have exposed him. ^{ch. 448}

A Ge tribe search team later finds torn clothes in poison grassland and reports that poison beard wolves killed her. ^{ch. 442} A month after the discovery, Ge tribesmen mourn her as kind-hearted and the tribe beauty despite a troublesome personality, the old Ge tribe leader falls ill with grief, and Man Duo still demands she be handed over, refusing to believe she is dead. ^{ch. 443}

At a later moonlight banquet Man Duo activates chase smoke Gu, which he says he used on Ge Yao when he first saw her. The smoke stains Fang Yuan and several of his poison beard wolves, and he claims he never met her while offering the wolves as the trail. Ge Guang then presses for hints and clues Gu as a further test. The marked Gu show no holder within range, Ge Guang kneels to apologize, and Ge tribe leader gifts that rank five Gu to Fang Yuan as apology. ^{ch. 447} Man Tu then treats her death as settled, while Man Duo privately mourns the lost marriage as a lost path to Ge tribe power. ^{ch. 448}

Ge tribe had meant the marriage as a trade for Hong Yan valley survival through the ten year blizzard; after she escaped, Man tribe used her as an excuse to pressure the tribe, and her death removes that excuse while leaving Man tribe still the strongest of the three nearby forces. Fang Yuan’s own reading treats her as a sacrifice in that tribal contest, and guesses her escape from a tightly secured camp may have been arranged as a probe that then went wrong. ^{ch. 449} Ge tribe later still counts her death among the costs of the Man tribe struggle, alongside an elder Man Duo killed in challenge. ^{ch. 450} After Man tribe’s later failure against Ge tribe, Man Tu names the lost “excuse called Ge Yao” among the reasons he will not keep escalating. ^{ch. 458}
