Green ghost desert is a famous Western Desert place of danger, a gloomy land of ghost crying trees and soul beasts that the aftermath of Spectral Soul Demon Venerable's battle with a super clan turned into a desert.
Unlike ordinary deserts, which are hot and open, the desert lies under dark clouds that thicken until they cover the sky entirely, leaving it dark and gloomy with barely any sunlight. Many trees grow there, and ghost crying trees are among the most numerous; each is twisted and full of natural holes, its bark marked with patterns that resemble the faces of crying humans, and when wind blows it shakes and gives a shrill scream. Even by day the place is cold and dark and soul beasts roam freely, and at night cold bone-chilling winds blow as countless ghosts wander. A vast number of soul beasts live there, and even immemorial soul beasts are not rare. Ancient soul beasts emerge from the dark clouds to attack Dancer Hong Yun as she crosses a corner of the desert, and afterwards a green claw ghost winged lion, which she names an immemorial desolate beast, pounces at her. ch. 1412 Fang Yuan and his companions use Omni-directional Travel to get ahead of Dancer Hong Yun on her return route, appear in the desert, and begin setting up an immortal formation there to ambush her and Thousand Transformations’ will. They stop at sixty percent, because Ying Wu Xie has already taken both down without a fight. ch. 1418
Origin
The desert is tied to Spectral Soul Demon Venerable, who fought a super clan there before he became a venerable and murdered all of that clan’s Gu Immortals who were present. The aftermath of the battle turned the area into green ghost desert, and the place seems filled with the hatred, anger, unhappiness and grief of the losers. It is an ominous land, and over the hundred thousand years since, many Western Desert Gu Immortals have died there. ch. 1412
Soul beasts and soul cores
After Fang Yuan arrives, many desolate beasts and ancient desolate beasts, most of them soul beasts, come to find trouble with him. A desolate level soul beast killed there leaves a glass-like soul core, a rank six immortal material, as its corpse dissipates into grey smoke. A disc scorpion, an immemorial desolate beast whose favorite food is soul beasts, charges at Fang Yuan, and danger lurks everywhere in the desert even for him. Shadow Sect members hunt soul beasts there as well, and the soul cores they gather are given to Lang Ya land spirit to produce guts Gu. Fang Yuan’s group soon controls over sixty desolate level soul beasts and about twenty ancient soul beasts, and a dozen or so days later the enslaved army has grown to three times that size. ch. 1503
Neighbours and claimants
Old Ghost Bai Jun, a rank seven lone cultivator, holds the rank eight Immortal Gu Soul Beast Token, which lets him enslave soul beasts, even immemorial ones. With it he could control an immemorial soul beast, use that beast to control a huge soul beast army, and even control the whole desert. Fang Yun says Fang clan is the nearest super clan to the desert, and Fang Leng says few people tread there. ch. 1504 The desert is an unowned land, and most Western Desert Gu Immortals and clans lack methods to develop it. ch. 1505 Fang clan’s first supreme elder says the clan lacks the strength to control the desert, has no methods to restrict soul beasts, and can mobilize few Gu Immortals. ch. 1507 Fang clan’s territory borders the desert. ch. 1512 Fang clan, the only clan around the desert and the super force closest to it, already treats the desert as its own territory. ch. 1779 Narration places the desert inside the territory of Fang clan, which cultivates formation path. ch. 1792 The desert is now Qing clan’s graveyard, right beside Fang clan. ch. 2102
Qing clan’s battlefield
The desert’s name refers to Qing clan, a former super force that has since been exterminated. Before Spectral Soul Demon Venerable became a venerable, an irreconcilable conflict led him to fight the entirety of Qing clan alone, and Qing clan belittled him because of its superiority in numbers and assets. He fought an intense battle at Qing clan’s headquarters and slaughtered the entire clan, and many Qing clan Gu Immortals perished. The dao marks of his killer moves, the Gu Immortals’ corpses, and the dao marks from the destruction of immortal apertures were all engraved on the battlefield, which became the current desert. It is rumored that Qing clan’s first supreme elder sealed all the clan’s resources before his death and buried them at a certain location in the desert, leaving an inheritance. The only condition is that the inheritor take revenge by killing Spectral Soul, or his family, friends and disciples if he is already dead. Fang clan’s ancestors began searching for clues to the inheritance when Qing clan was exterminated, the clues are now complete, and with a vague responsive method the clan has begun searching the desert. ch. 1507
Impermanence rock
Impermanence rocks, a rank six immortal material, exist in the desert in large quantity. Each is half black and half white, forms only in places that constantly have battles, and grows only where lifeforms died. Fang clan offers a rank six Immortal Gu as the reward for impermanence rocks collected there. ch. 1513
Divine Bean Palace
Fang clan’s immortals are about to search the desert when Divine Bean Palace, a rank eight Immortal Gu House, appears in front of them, and the Qing clan inheritance Fang clan has coveted for generations appears with it. ch. 1515 Qing clan’s first supreme elder sent the clan’s inheritance into Divine Bean Palace at the brink of destruction, concealing it, and the countless fragment souls of Qing clan’s Gu Immortals were drawn and stored into the palace. As time passed the desert slowly formed, and in that environment the soul fragments could not revive but gathered and fused into a legendary immemorial soul beast that kept the Qing surname and called itself Qing Chou. ch. 1516 Fang clan has more than ten Gu Immortals in the desert for the expedition to get the palace, and half of them are rank seven. Where Fang clan’s three Immortal Gu Houses stop, the ground below is an ordinary desert with no outstanding features. ch. 1521
Qing Chou unleashes a final move whose ripples spread through the whole desert, and soul path dao marks burst out and light up all of it while every soul beast feels a summoning and goes to reinforce Qing Chou. Fang Di Chang deduces that the soul path dao marks left behind after Spectral Soul slaughtered Qing clan created the desert’s environment, and that the desert is like an incomplete battlefield killer move whose owner is Qing Chou. ch. 1526 The desert’s dao marks corrode peach blossom maze, a battlefield killer move, until loopholes open and countless soul beasts summoned by Soul Beast Token rush in. ch. 1527 Fang Yuan steals Soul Beast Token from Qing Chou inside Divine Bean Palace. ch. 1528 Even with the token gone, the desert’s soul path dao marks keep corroding peach blossom maze. Fang clan’s commotion stirs all the soul beasts in the desert, and Western Desert Gu Immortals notice it and come over. ch. 1529 Fang clan obtains Divine Bean Palace, while Qing Chou escapes and is likely hiding in the desert. With many Western Desert Gu Immortals now there and Qing Chou at large, Fang Yuan decides to leave the desert, and Western Desert too. ch. 1530 Qing Chou is still hiding inside the desert, a huge threat, and the desert has a fatal danger while it remains. ch. 1792
Development
Fang Yuan plans to disguise himself and become acquainted with Fang clan, which would help him manage the desert and make it his soul core farming ground. ch. 1512 Fang Yuan regrets that his development plan for the desert did not succeed: Qing Chou has escaped, his Suan Bu Jin identity has been exposed, and he can no longer continue hunting soul beasts there. ch. 1616
Disguised again as Suan Bu Jin, Fang Yuan goes there to cooperate with Fang clan and develop the desert together, and meets Fang clan’s rank seven Gu Immortal Fang Hua Sheng inside it. This differs from his previous life, in which Suan Bu Jin’s identity was exposed and his connection to Fang clan was cut. ch. 1775 Fang clan hands Fang Yuan a portion of the soul cores once in a while under the agreement, and he expects to rely on himself for the development. He cannot station himself in the desert, so he arranges pawns such as Ying Wu Xie there. ch. 1779 Ying Wu Xie makes use of Soul Beast Token to develop the desert rapidly. ch. 1781 The desert is too huge and holds countless soul beasts, a soul path giant resource point that fulfills Fang Yuan’s need for soul beasts and soul cores with great ease. ch. 1792 Ying Wu Xie takes charge of the place and a continuous supply of soul beasts follows. ch. 1801 Fang Yuan names Fang clan taking over the desert and providing him a vast number of soul cores as the second of his conditions. ch. 2102 Fang Dong Xi of Fang clan harvests a batch of soul cores in the desert to hand to Fang Yuan, and Ling Hu Xu steals it during a chaotic battle. ch. 2130 Bing Yuan says Fang clan is using all its strength to develop the desert and is supplying countless soul cores to Fang Yuan. ch. 2139
