Meeting a Benefactor
In green ghost desert, a soul beast group carries three Gu Immortals. Old Ghost Bai Jun sits on a bull shaped ancient soul beast as its master. Fang Leng and Fang Yun, two rank six Gu Immortals from Fang clan, are his captives, their souls completely bound by dark grey soul chains. Old Ghost Bai Jun presses them to write to their clan for a ransom. Fang Yun says they cannot message the clan with their souls bound and asks for the chains to be loosened a little. ch. 1504
Old Ghost Bai Jun refuses, suspecting a trick to escape by body cloud killer move, and torments Fang Yun, then Fang Leng too. When both turn pale, he stops and weighs his position. Killing them would let Fang clan, a Western Desert super force, definitely identify him as the culprit. A clan search of the desert would also hinder his master’s plan, and Fang Di Chang, the clan’s second supreme elder, has fame as a wisdom path expert. Letting them go might make his master call him cowardly, so he settles on ransom and an agreement. ch. 1504
Fang Leng tells him to just kill them, while Fang Yun cries out that he will contact the clan. The chains stay tight, Fang Yun repeats that he cannot message without a little loosening, and the torture resumes until both collapse. Fang Yun guesses the ransom aims at a nonaggression pact. Fang Yun apologizes, and Old Ghost Bai Jun firmly answers that after their repeated provocations it is too late, though inwardly shaken. Fang Yun then offers heavy compensation and a private settlement, keeping from the clan a scandal that would cost him and Fang Leng prestige. ch. 1504
Old Ghost Bai Jun scoffs that Fang Yun carries no prestige, while Fang Leng is a talent among rank sixes and a possible successor. Old Ghost Bai Jun refuses a private settlement. He will talk terms with the first supreme elder, taking compensation and keeping Fang clan out of green ghost desert for a few hundred years. ch. 1504
Old Ghost Bai Jun has rank seven cultivation and is close to rank eight, though he does not dare tribulation yet. He shows a sapphire ladybird like Gu, the size of a small bowl, dotted with golden star specks. Fang Yun cries out that it is a rank eight Immortal Gu. Old Ghost Bai Jun names it Soul Beast Token, which enslaves soul beasts, even immemorial ones, and needs no rank eight immortal essence, so he can use it now. With it he can control an immemorial soul beast, then a huge soul beast army, and finally the whole desert. Fang Leng hoarsely names the aim, to hold the desert and lean on an immemorial soul beast to pass tribulation and reach rank eight. ch. 1504
Fang Yun replies that Fang clan is the nearest super clan, so an agreement would give Old Ghost Bai Jun the safest place to cultivate. Old Ghost Bai Jun agrees and thanks them for coming now. Fang Leng is a direct great-grandson of the first supreme elder, and Fang Yun is the second supreme elder’s adopted son. Both carry weight in talks despite rank six. Fang Leng judges that with an immemorial soul beast Old Ghost Bai Jun would rank as quasi rank eight and that the captives give him the best chips. ch. 1504
Fang Yun then shouts for his senior brother to look, and a white cloud is flying slowly toward them under the dark clouds. Fang Leng remembers Fang Yun saying his father, the second supreme elder, had deduced the trip would be threatening but not dangerous. They would meet a benefactor on a white cloud and reap huge harvests. Fang Leng wonders if this is that benefactor. Old Ghost Bai Jun stares gloomily, noting the cloud emits luck path aura and that someone has used an immortal killer move, and wonders who owns such rare luck path methods. ch. 1504
