White Jade Gu

It is like an oval pebble. Its whole body is completely white: not pale like Xuan paper, and not milky white like milk, but a moist white with the luster of jade. ^{ch. 99} In the aperture it sinks in the primeval sea. Its surface emits a faint white jade glow, like a lightbulb, and that oval pebble surface flashes faintly when the defense takes a hit. ^{ch. 100}

It keeps and strengthens Jade Skin Gu’s defensive line and drops White Boar Gu’s strength-gain ability. A Gu Master who only holds White Jade Gu gains defense, not more bodily strength. ^{ch. 105} The strength White Boar Gu already wrote into Fang Yuan’s body stays after the fusion. ^{ch. 100}

Activation covers the body in white jade light. The glow is thinner than Jade Skin Gu’s jade green light but has more than twice the defensive power. Like Jade Skin Gu, the defense needs a continuous supply of primeval essence, and harder hits spend more essence. Against jade eye stone monkeys, Fang Yuan rates it as holding more than thirty attackers where Jade Skin Gu held about sixteen. ^{ch. 100}

It is not a Raiment-type Gu: it does not lessen impact force when the user falls or is slammed, even if the skin barrier holds. ^{ch. 150} A stone monkey headbutt to the chin still knocks his head back and leaves brief dizziness, though the barrier keeps the bone intact. ^{ch. 114} Full-body continuous use drains essence every moment, so Fang Yuan often raises it only at the crucial instant. One stone monkey king claw on middle-stage scarlet essence costs about five percent of that sea; the same hit on initial-stage light red essence would have cost about ten percent. ^{ch. 115}

Fang Zheng’s rank two Moon Raiment sits slightly below White Jade Gu in defense, but can protect others and helps more in small-group fights. ^{ch. 104}

It eats jade rocks, following the Jade Skin Gu feeding line rather than White Boar Gu’s pork. White Jade Gu needs eight liang of jade rocks every twenty days, against Jade Skin Gu’s two liang every ten days. On average its food cost is higher than Jade Skin Gu and White Boar Gu combined. ^{ch. 100}

He chooses White Jade Gu over Moonglow Gu for his first rank two fusion so he can finish the honey-wine mission and push the inheritance with stronger defense. ^{ch. 98} Before that fusion he already gathers honey wine by enduring the bees with Jade Skin Gu alone. After success he clears jade eye stone monkeys with the white jade barrier. ^{ch. 100} Once Moonglow Gu is also refined, he treats White Jade Gu as defense beside Moonglow Gu for offense. ^{ch. 107} When Xiong Lin’s report exposes that he holds White Jade Gu, he covers it for a time by saying he bought it from the caravan. ^{ch. 144}

He fuses rank two White Jade Gu with an aqua defense Gu into rank three Sky Canopy Gu. An earlier attempt that used Water Shield Gu with White Jade Gu fails and kills only the Water Shield Gu; the second try with a battle-merit aqua defense Gu succeeds. ^{ch. 155} After that advance, he judges that rank two White Jade Gu alone would not have been enough for the centipede cave pressure that Sky Canopy Gu can take. ^{ch. 162}
