Frost Demon Gu

On Qing Mao Mountain, Fang Yuan guesses that Bai Ning Bing used rank three Frost Demon Gu for the ice arm strike that killed Xiong Li. He rates the Gu as strong among rank three, and he stays out of personal reach because even White Jade Gu would not hold that attack. ^{ch. 137}

Form and rank

It is a rank three Gu worm. ^{ch. 137} Bai Ning Bing refined that copy after three failures and a large spend of resources; after it is gone, Blue Bird Ice Coffin Gu is the only rank three Gu left in that set. ^{ch. 140} Bai Ning Bing later says Wood Charm Gu is harder to refine than Frost Demon Gu. ^{ch. 141}

No cited chapter describes the Gu worm’s resting look in the aperture, or gives a Chinese name or glyph. In the Qing Mao fight Bai Ning Bing holds it in the right palm when pouring primeval essence into it. ^{ch. 139}

Effect

It lets a person transform into the frost demon, and the text places that value on par with Wood Charm Gu. ^{ch. 143} Overuse harms the user. Fang Yuan’s early read is that light overuse brings joint problems and heavier overuse can freeze and damage muscle, so other Gu are needed beside it. ^{ch. 137} Extended use dwindles life force until the Gu Master turns into an ice statue. Bai Ning Bing knew that limit and did not push the Gu as far as Gu Yue Qing Shu pushed Wood Charm Gu. ^{ch. 143}

With ice muscles that can take frost cold, the Gu and those muscles complement each other. ^{ch. 137} Bai Ning Bing can also spend remaining primeval essence to self-detonate the Gu in the palm, sacrificing the right arm and flooding the path with frost. ^{ch. 139 ch. 140}

Cited chapters do not show a full-body frost demon form on screen. The Qing Mao ice-arm strike Fang Yuan attributes to Frost Demon Gu is the closest: the right hand and forearm turn into transparent blue frosty ice with finger bones visible, then recover fleshy form after the kill. ^{ch. 137} The later palm detonation again turns the right arm’s muscles into light blue ice before the arm explodes. ^{ch. 139}

Fang Yuan’s read of the valley fight is that Bai Ning Bing is already running Frost Demon Gu; the confirmed act is the later self-detonation that breaks the path when Qing Shu’s group and Fang Yuan close in. ^{ch. 137 ch. 139} After breaking out of the ice, Bai Ning Bing names that sacrifice among the losses forced in the fight, and treats the Gu as gone. ^{ch. 140} Fang Yuan later still ranks Frost Demon Gu as the most valuable worm in Bai Ning Bing’s set when he uses Plunder Gu, but by then that copy has already been sacrificed. ^{ch. 143 ch. 140}
