Gu worm in Reverend Insanity

The Water Shield Gu is a defensive Gu that forms a spherical moisture barrier from water vapour. Full power needs a free ball of moving water.

Bai Ning Bing already blows water vapour from the nose into a round moisture shield that disperses wolf charges, before the Gu is even named. ch. 134 The Gu is named Water Shield Gu during the fight against Fang Yuan and Xiong Li’s group. ch. 136

Appearance

In Fang Yuan’s aperture it looks like a jellyfish floating in the primeval sea. ch. 145 After a thunderball destroys the water shield, the jellyfish-like Gu appears very dull inside the aperture. ch. 150

Form and rank

No cited chapter names its Rank in plain words. Bai Ning Bing’s activated shield grows thicker and becomes no weaker than a rank three Gu worm’s defense. ch. 141

Effect

Activation sends two lines of water vapour from the nostrils that coil into a spherical barrier of condensed moisture. Fang Yuan rates its defensive power as superior to even White Jade Gu. Moving water in the ball disperses force. Pin needles that enter the shield slow to a halt and are purged by the currents. ch. 136 ch. 141

Full defense needs a free ball shape. Against a wall the ball cannot form and power falls sharply. On the ground the shield is less than half of its usual strength. ch. 136 Shared damage through Shadow Bond Gu passes through even when Bai Ning Bing holds Water Shield Gu. ch. 137

Bai Ning Bing’s use

Bai Ning Bing relies on it in the Qing Mao Mountain wolf-tide fights, including against Xiong Li and against Gu Yue Qing Shu’s pin needles and green vines. ch. 136 When vines wrap the shield and threaten to collapse it, Bai Ning Bing withdraws the defense and switches to offense. ch. 141

Fang Yuan obtains it

Near the end of Bai Ning Bing’s fight with Qing Shu, Fang Yuan uses Plunder Gu and catches Water Shield Gu from Bai Ning Bing’s body. He judges that Water Shield Gu with White Jade Gu would give him greater defensive power. ch. 143 He later rates the stolen Water Shield Gu and red steel Relic Gu as the useful takes from that body, beside a Stone Aperture Gu he has no use for. ch. 144 In the aperture the Water Shield Gu floats like a jellyfish beside that Relic Gu. ch. 145

He lists Water Shield Gu among the Gu worms he carries while weighing Gu Yue Yao Ji’s pressure on Nine Leaf Vitality Grass, and notes that the clan has turned a blind eye to Water Shield Gu, Plunder Gu, and his fast cultivation. ch. 148

He later activates it on the village wall against a bold lightning wolf’s electric current, then drops the shield to answer with moonblades. ch. 149 When a rank three Thunderclap Gu thunderball hits his tower, Water Shield Gu and White Jade Gu together keep him alive while nearby Gu Masters die. The thunder destroys the water shield within two breaths, and the Gu looks dull afterward. If the water shield is destroyed many times in a row, the Gu itself can be damaged and can perish. ch. 150

Failed fusion into Sky Canopy Gu

Fang Yuan’s first try at refining Sky Canopy Gu fuses Water Shield Gu with rank two White Jade Gu. The fusion fails and kills only the Water Shield Gu. The successful second try uses an aqua defense Gu from battle-merit exchange instead. ch. 155

Ice and water series mention

In the Shang clan city stretch, Fang Yuan recalls the Gu worms Bai Ning Bing had with Northern Dark Ice Soul Physique, including water shield Gu beside ice blade Gu, icicle Gu, blue bird ice coffin Gu, ice muscles Gu, and frost demon Gu. He says those worms belonged to ice and water series and complemented each other. ch. 230
