Chapter 150

On the tower where Fang Yuan is stationed, one of the three frenzy lightning wolves waiting at the rear finally acts, launching a millstone-sized thunderball from its rank three Thunderclap Gu. The blast half-destroys the tower and kills every other Gu Master on it. Only Fang Yuan survives, saved by his Water Shield Gu and White Jade Gu even as the impact throws him to the ground and leaves his back battered. The wolf pack pours through the huge hole the blast tears in the outer wall, and the frenzy lightning wolves finally enter the battle themselves. ^{ch. 150}

A second thunderball follows almost at once, revealing that this frenzy lightning wolf carries two Thunderclap Gu, and Fang Yuan dodges rather than risk his already-damaged Water Shield Gu. Clan elders step in to face it. It takes three of them working together to hold the wolf back, since a frenzy lightning wolf needs at least three coordinated groups, or at least three rank three Gu Masters, to be matched. From a distance, Fang Yuan works out each wolf’s arsenal. One carries double Thunderclap Gu, another a Thunder Wings Gu for brief flight, and a third what he judges to be a Thunder Roar Gu. Xiong Jiao Man sends her one surviving brown bear at the wolf, buying enough time to pull Yao Le clear before the wolf catches up to them again. Yao Ji arrives and poisons it with the rank three Moon Poison Gu. The wolf’s answering roar turns out to carry a Soundwave Gu rather than the Thunder Roar Gu Fang Yuan had guessed. Its invisible force throws Jiao Man against a building and blows Yao Le out through the broken east gate. ^{ch. 150}

Outside the walls, a wounded young Gu Master trapped under rubble kills the wolf about to bite her with one last moonblade, then is killed himself as more wolves swarm him. Alone and unable to find Yao Ji again in the chaos, Yao Le hears an unseen voice call out warnings, telling her when to step back or roll aside, with moonblades arriving from nowhere whenever she is too slow to obey. She is guided clear of the wolves, deep into a forest. There she finally sees her rescuer: Fang Yuan. Asked if he saved her, he grins and says he was only helping himself. ^{ch. 150}
