Blue Bird Ice Coffin Gu

The name first appears when Bai Ning Bing fights Xiong Li’s group on Qing Mao Mountain and opens his mouth to release an icy blue bird. Xiong Li’s side names it rank three Blue Bird Ice Coffin Gu as it locks on and kills their support Gu Master Xiong Xin inside a partially transparent ice block. ^{ch. 136}

Appearance

It leaves the mouth as a small icy blue bird, like a pigeon, and flies toward its target. ^{ch. 136} Under Northern Dark Ice Soul Physique it can grow from pigeon size toward eagle size while it flies. ^{ch. 141}

Form and rank

Chapter 136 and chapter 143 both call it a rank three Gu. ^{ch. 136 ch. 143} After Bai Ning Bing sacrifices Frost Demon Gu, it is the only rank three Gu left in that set. ^{ch. 140} Fang Yuan later ranks it second in value among Bai Ning Bing’s worms, after Frost Demon Gu, and notes that it resides in Bai Ning Bing’s throat. ^{ch. 143}

Activation starts with the throat expanding as something rises from the stomach into the mouth before the bird emerges above the teeth. ^{ch. 136} No cited chapter describes a resting look in the aperture beyond that throat seat, and no cited chapter names what the Gu eats.

Effect

Unlike a moonblade, once sent out the bird is locked onto its target. On impact it explodes in frosty blue light and leaves a partially transparent ice block that seals the victim. In the Xiong Li fight, the sealed Gu Master shows no signs of life, with fear still on the face inside the ice. ^{ch. 136}

In Bai Ning Bing’s duel with Gu Yue Qing Shu, the bird freezes Qing Shu in an ice crystal as large as a room; he then breaks free after Wood Charm Gu pushes him into a larger tree spirit form. ^{ch. 141}

Bai Ning Bing can spit out more than one bird in a fight. Against Fang Yuan, several ice birds fly together with Icicle Gu shots until moonblades break the birds mid-air. ^{ch. 166} Fang Yuan also moonblades a bird at close range in the earlier fight; the blast freezes half of Bai Ning Bing’s own left limb. ^{ch. 136}

While Bai Ning Bing still suppressed rank three cultivation and fought with rank two primeval essence, using this rank three Gu burned that essence quickly, could not show the Gu’s full rank three power, and left a window for enemies to strike. ^{ch. 136} Plunder Gu at rank two cannot take this rank three worm even when the Gu Master wills the theft. ^{ch. 143}

Bai Ning Bing’s Qing Mao use

Bai Ning Bing uses it first to break Xiong Li’s encirclement by killing Xiong Xin, then tries to leave the field. Fang Yuan leaps from cover. ^{ch. 136} Bai Ning Bing later lands it on Qing Shu during their duel. ^{ch. 141} Fang Yuan judges that Bai Ning Bing’s recovered essence is enough to use the Gu again when Bai clan reinforcements arrive, and he refuses a finishing strike partly for that reason. ^{ch. 142} The Gu still appears in a later Qing Mao clash when Bai Ning Bing switches to long range against Fang Yuan and mixes several ice birds with Icicle Gu fire. ^{ch. 166} No cited chapter shows another owner, or any use after those Qing Mao fights and the early Shang recall below.
