Fang Yuan judges that canopy Gu might have impressive defense but is too rigid, ^{ch. 288} and thinks the Gu is not good at defending against close combat attacks. ^{ch. 281} Frenzy needle bee Gu at rank three can pierce it; chapter 209 says that piercing swarm counters Sky Canopy Gu. ^{ch. 207 ch. 208 ch. 209}

A rank one initial stage’s green bronze primeval essence can barely run it. Even with high aptitude and Heavenly Essence Treasure Lotus support, a few minutes of use can dry the aperture out, and the armor looks weak without rank three aura. ^{ch. 200}

After Fang Yuan’s cultivation falls to rank one initial stage, he cannot properly power rank three Gu even with A grade recovery and Heavenly Essence Treasure Lotus, so he lends Sky Canopy Gu and Chainsaw Golden Centipede to rank three Bai Ning Bing. ^{ch. 201} She places it in her aperture, pours white silver primeval essence into it, and gains the white light armor. ^{ch. 202} It stays the rank three defensive Gu he has lent her while he looks for other defense for himself. ^{ch. 205} During later fighting on Bai Gu mountain he lends the canopy Gu to her again so she can stack it with other defenses. ^{ch. 227}

Fang Yuan places Sky Canopy Gu in his kit under the six classifications as the defense slot, paired with Blood Moon Gu for attack. That is a kit role, not a named cultivation path for this Gu. ^{ch. 161} Qing Mao Mountain and early wandering chapters describe the armor effect without assigning a path name.

Spectators call canopy Gu and golden shield Gu great defensive rank three Gu, and Bai Ning Bing judges that golden shield Gu suits Fang Yuan’s strength path methods slightly better. ^{ch. 300} Fang Yuan has already sold the canopy Gu because it overlapped with golden shield Gu and did not suit his fighting style; the text does not name the buyer. ^{ch. 301}
