Appearance, rank, and path

In his palm it is dainty and delicate: emerald green roots like a ginseng’s beard, semi-transparent stolons like jadeite, and nine round jade-green leaves covering and reflecting each other in a round plate. ^{ch. 102} Once refined, it can sit in the palm as living grass or return into a green insignia on that palm. ^{ch. 106}

It is a healing-type rank two Gu worm. It is a healing-type grass Gu, and no chapter names a cultivation path for it. ^{ch. 102 ch. 106}

Effect

For ordinary healing it is no better than Life breath grass. Its true value is the leaves: each leaf torn off is a vitality leaf, a rank one expendable grass Gu that disappears after one use. ^{ch. 102 ch. 106} After one vitality leaf heals a person, other vitality leaves give that person no further healing for the next hour. Even so, easy refinement, instant healing, and easy feeding make vitality leaves the most popular healing method among rank two Gu Masters. ^{ch. 102}

Primeval essence poured into the bare stem grows new leaves. Fang Yuan finds that growing one mature leaf costs about 20% of his rank two essence sea at that time. ^{ch. 106} Growing out a full set of nine leaves takes him about half a day. ^{ch. 112} One vitality leaf is priced at about fifty primeval stones, so nine leaves are worth about four hundred and fifty before costs. ^{ch. 106}

Near the wolf tide, clan sale prices climb from fifty-five to sixty primeval stones per leaf, and Fang Yuan asks Qing Shu sixty-five. Fang Yuan expects the peak wolf-tide price to pass one hundred in his memory of the same period. ^{ch. 124}

Feeding

It needs only water and sunlight, so raising it has virtually no feed cost. ^{ch. 106}

Ownership on Qing Mao Mountain

Before Fang Yuan, his uncle Gu Yue Dong Tu held this grass Gu and sold vitality leaves, which is why Dong Tu kept outside influence as a retired “hidden elder.” ^{ch. 102 ch. 112} Fang Yuan keeps it as the most valuable part of the inheritance for healing and stone income, and that income helps feed the other Gu he raises. ^{ch. 106 ch. 107 ch. 112 ch. 158}

The Gu Yue clan also holds five Nine Leaf Vitality Grass Gu as collective property, with specialized Gu Masters tasked to produce vitality leaves every day. Other villagers hold copies as well, which is why the clan does not immediately force-buy Fang Yuan’s alone. ^{ch. 106}

During the wolf tide, the medicine hall posts an order for Gu Masters who hold Nine Leaf Vitality Grass to hand copies over for unified production. Fang Yuan is named on the list, and he reads the move as Gu Yue Yao Ji pressuring him while Chi and Mo faction holders already mark “handed over.” ^{ch. 148}
