Activating it wraps the user in a sturdy jade-coloured skin or barrier. ^{ch. 76 ch. 85} The defense is continuous: it needs a running supply of primeval essence, and harder hits spend more essence. ^{ch. 100} Fang Yuan also uses it to cushion a hard fall from the canopy and lands with only back pain. ^{ch. 95}

After an intense battle in which he uses Jade Skin Gu multiple times, Fang Yuan’s rank one peak stage black green essence falls from a full 44% aperture fill to 36%, so about 8% spent in that stretch. With White Boar Gu it fuses into rank two White Jade Gu.
