Just let him fly a bit higher
In The Legends of Ren Zu’s immemorial antiquity era, Verdant Great Sun refuses to drink, afraid that divine travel Gu will again send him, drunk, somewhere dangerous. Twice before it sent him to the ordinary abyss and the cauldron of the hairy men, and he survived by luck. The Gu protests that he used its power himself. It once saved him from tiger-striped honey bees. Ashamed that he now finds life meaningless, the Gu offers a method to become Fixed Immortal Travel Gu, which would stop sending him to random places when drunk. Verdant Great Sun must pluck a jade bamboo in azure heaven, take an eight-sided diamond from star fragments in blue heaven, and fly into the sunrise to use its light of glory. ch. 371
Verdant Great Sun, born to walk the earth without wings, doubts he can fly. Wisdom Gu, which taught him to drink merely to avoid being disturbed, hides when it senses him coming. Divine travel Gu names cognition Gu, wisdom Gu’s mother, who says cognition is the wings of freedom and that the wings depend on the person. Cognition Gu turns into warm light and gives him snow-white feathered wings named self. It warns him not to bask too long in sunlight, or his sense of self will expand or shrink, and that the higher he flies, the harder he falls. ch. 371
Verdant Great Sun flies up gleefully, hiding in clouds when it is sunny. At the end of azure heaven, among jade bamboos rooted in the void, he plucks a palm-sized hollow stem. The sky has nine levels: white heaven, red heaven, orange heaven, yellow heaven, green heaven, azure heaven, blue heaven, purple heaven and black heaven. A few days later, in blue heaven at night, he searches a river of stardust and finds an eight-sided fragment, not seven- or sixteen-sided ones. At dawn he flies toward the sunrise holding both, and the summoned Gu swallows the fragment and enters the bamboo. ch. 371
The Gu tells him to keep flying toward the sun while it transforms, then hide in the clouds, and to watch his wings. Verdant Great Sun laughs, certain the light of glory can do nothing to him. Sunlight weaves a cocoon around the Gu and bamboo, and a green butterfly bursts out, now Fixed Immortal Travel Gu. His wings have tripled in size, but he laughs that larger wings fly higher and faster, ignoring the Gu’s worried pleas to hide. The wings swell beyond his body and explode, and he falls to the ground as an unrecognisable corpse: Ren Zu’s eldest son meets his end. ch. 371
On Huo Tan mountain in Southern Border, Fang Yuan drinks wine kept warm by the mountain’s heat, while Bai Ning Bing stares toward San Cha mountain. Months have passed, three kings inheritance has opened twice, and Tie Mu Bai now controls San Cha mountain, having chased away all demonic Gu Masters. Bai Ning Bing has cultivated nonstop these months and wants to stop watching. She proposes striking once Tie Mu Bai enters the inheritance, sure that no one on San Cha mountain can stop them. Fang Yuan feels no rush, calls them both mere rats beside Tie Mu Bai, the glory of Tie clan and a rank five peak stage previous clan leader, and would let him fly ever higher. Raising his cup toward San Cha mountain, he toasts Tie Mu Bai as a senior, and Bai Ning Bing sees only black eyes dark like the abyss. ch. 371
