Fishing for Year Beasts
Fang Yuan, Bai Ning Bing, Hei Lou Lan, Fairy Miao Yin, Lady White Rabbit and Ying Wu Xie wait inside a time path immortal Gu formation. It is built around rank seven year Gu with rank eight Years Flow Like Water as its supplementary Immortal Gu. The formation comes from Hei Fan’s true inheritance. He named it the immemorial year beast fishing formation. It broadcasts the two Gu’s aura through a tributary of the River of Time inside Fang Yuan’s immortal aperture, to draw in immemorial year beasts. ch. 1428
Hei Fan learned that Years Flow Like Water’s aura was dangerously attractive to immemorial year beasts. He first created a formation that destroyed the tributary and sealed time inside his aperture, but that stopped every Gu from working and forced him to carry Gu worms on his body, which was very dangerous. He then found that one immemorial year beast living in his aperture would mark it as that beast’s territory and keep the others out. Mimicking an immemorial year beast’s aura failed for lack of transformation path skill. Raising one himself would have meant starting from ancient year beasts, and that needed more time than his dwindling lifespan allowed. He then tried to enslave one outright and created the killer move called year beast summoning at grandmaster enslavement path, but it could only call ancient year beasts, not immemorial ones. At the end of his life he built this fishing formation instead, a device that could only lure an immemorial year beast, not command it, and he died without completing his goal. ch. 1428
Fang Yuan judges that, with time, he could finish Hei Fan’s inheritance and create a killer move that directly summons a controlled immemorial year beast. For now he plans only to lure one with the fishing formation. He then means to force it to submit with hundred and eighty slaves. He wants an immemorial year beast under his control before entering the River of Time itself, since it is dangerous and Heavenly Court may have arrangements waiting there. He has no territorial advantage inside the river and is not adept at fighting there. He guesses that Feng Jiu Ge’s earlier escape from the river came from either his own ability or Heavenly Court’s help. ch. 1428
An immemorial year monkey is drawn in by the formation. Year beasts eat year Gu, and Years Flow Like Water produces year Gu, so the monkey sees an endless supply of food. It tears open a huge hole and squeezes its bulk into Fang Yuan’s sovereign immortal aperture, and the space mends shut behind it. Fang Yuan is pleased: his aperture is only a blessed land, so the passage is very inconvenient and the monkey will not escape easily once they fight. When it smells the Gu’s aura it slams into the immortal formation, but Hei Fan’s design holds without shaking. ch. 1428
