A Flesh Sac Secret Chamber text invites a fated successor to knock the teeth in the mouths on the flesh walls; if luck opens the teeth, they can take the Gu worm hibernating inside. The same text names his two identities as Grey Bone Scholar and Flesh Bone Master. ^{ch. 224}

A scroll on his tomb pyramid states that he lacked high aptitude and spent his life trying to invent a cultivation Gu that ordinary Gu Masters could use widely. Near death he left the unfinished bone flesh unity Gu concept, materials, and forge for a fated successor, asking that any result be conveyed to his gravestone. ^{ch. 226}

Fang Yuan judges the flower wine monk a cut above Grey Bone Scholar in rank, yet still ranks his own gains from this site above the flower wine inheritance, because this mountain setup was planned for a long time while the other was completed in haste. ^{ch. 228}

Bai Ning Bing sighs that the world holds so many great geniuses; the next line treats Grey Bone Scholar as a true genius for inventing that Gu while only a rank four Gu Master. ^{ch. 231}
