Righteous Gu Masters rely on clans, clansmen help, and safely obtained resources. That backing gives a sense of security and trust among them. Wei Yang, who converted from demonic to righteous, frames the contrast this way: the righteous faction flourishes while the demonic faction is suppressed, because lone demonic Gu Masters lack that support and turn on each other. ^{ch. 280}
