Chapter 635

Imperial Court blessed land is northern plains’ foremost blessed land, deep in foundation and rich in fortune. Even so, it first hosted the contest between its land spirit Frost Jade Peacock and Giant Sun’s will, then took in the heaven and earth qi drawn off by Fang Yuan and Tai Bai Yun Sheng’s immortal ascension. Finally the once in ten years blizzard fused with both men’s tribulations into one terrifying heavenly tribulation. That Frost Jade Peacock held out this long is already a small miracle. The blessed land’s destruction is now a foregone conclusion, and the wind veil that has formed wraps it like a sphere with walls at least hundreds of meters thick. ^{ch. 635}

Formless hands that fly into the veil are simply crushed and assimilated into it, feeding the winds of assimilation further, and even Fang Yuan’s flash bug Gu cannot get him through. The same veil, though, seals outside forces out just as completely. Thousands of meters above the ground, three Gu Immortals look down grimly at the wind veil’s tranquil, dark green surface, none of them willing to underestimate it. ^{ch. 635}

An elderly Gu Immortal among them demands furiously what has happened inside. Eighty-Eight True Yang Building and Imperial Court blessed land were Giant Sun Immortal Venerable’s own arrangement for his descendants, and the Huang Jin bloodline has long treated it as their territory. With it now destroyed, the righteous path Gu Immortals of northern plains’ super tribes stir like dormant volcanoes turning active. ^{ch. 635}

A younger Gu Immortal reports that their chief suspect is Wolf King Chang Shan Yin, whom their investigation concludes is an impersonator, since the real Chang Shan Yin died long ago. Tai Bai Yun Sheng, Bian Si Xuan and others are suspect too, in a scheme reaching into central continent, where at least three ancient sects have spent a hundred years plotting against Eighty-Eight True Yang Building. All that central continent effort built the loopholes Fang Yuan then used for himself. ^{ch. 635}

Imperial Court blessed land and its building are spiritual symbols of northern plains, so news of the disaster draws every northern plains force’s attention at once. All of them were outside when it happened. Events moved too fast for any to save it. Their leader, a Gu Immortal with a child’s face, has an aura the chapter calls extremely powerful, and he sighs that recovery matters more than investigation now. Eighty-Eight True Yang Building is a rank eight Immortal Gu House, profound enough that it might yet survive the winds of assimilation, so the three should wait for a chance to help. ^{ch. 635}

The younger man, addressing the leader as Lord Tong Zu, offers their Chanyu tribe’s immortal killer move Winged Blade to force the wind veil open, unable to hide his pride in it. The elder, a wisdom path Gu Immortal, warns that even Winged Blade gives only one strike, since his calculations show any wound in the veil heals within eight breaths. Chanyu Tong Zu notes that Hei tribe, Ye Lui tribe, Dong Fang tribe and other righteous path super tribes already ring the veil, alongside six Gu Immortals from the demonic path force Snowy Mountain looking to profit. Everyone gathered there has trump cards of their own. The strike must not let any of them take advantage. ^{ch. 635}

Inside the veil, Giant Sun’s will roars that the luck path true inheritance belongs to him alone, and takes the shape of a golden dragon, at times splitting into seventeen or eighteen smaller dragons before recombining into one. More than ten Immortal Gu ride on its body, two on the horns, one in each eye and six or seven among the scales, unleashing flame, divert disaster light and frost without pause. He has suppressed his anger for too long. Now fighting at full strength, he surrounds Ma Hong Yun and Zhao Lian Yun first because of the true inheritance’s value. Formless fists keep tearing free of the swarm with luck path Gu worms inside, and the golden dragon coils around the light lump destroying every one it can reach, though the hands nearby just as often steal a worm back after he claims it. ^{ch. 635}

Below this contest, the surviving Gu Masters fight a smaller share of formless hands, now more exposed than ever since the secluded domain’s collapse. A formless hand is almost untouchable until it holds a stolen worm and turns into a fist, and few Gu Masters are fast enough to catch and break one even then. Fang Yuan and Hei Lou Lan are among the few exceptions. The narration calls them geniuses among geniuses. One pure blooded Gu Master flies up begging Giant Sun’s will for help and is instead the first person it kills once it activates an Immortal Gu. Even with his own Great Strength True Martial Physique, Hei Lou Lan does not dare approach Giant Sun’s will after seeing this. Ye Lui Sang crawls up from a fall that stripped every Gu worm from his body, grateful only that his tempered body kept him to broken bones instead of death. ^{ch. 635}

Fang Yuan feels the weight of it all. He grits his teeth, unable to find any way to simply leave. He reasons that Giant Sun’s will has not yet turned on him only because it is busy with the otherworldly demon Zhao Lian Yun and guarding the true inheritance, and that once it finishes there he will be a sheep before a tiger. He judges that Giant Sun’s will alone cannot fuel so many Immortal Gu at once, and that cutting its link to Giant Sun’s immortal essence is the only way to beat it, but the formless hands leave him no room to try. His own large hoard of Immortal Gu draws hands to him constantly, and Hei Lou Lan keeps attacking without let up. Hei Lou Lan is a true child of heaven whom the narration likens to a matured Bai Ning Bing, with battle strength so heaven defying that even Tai Bai Yun Sheng cannot match it, and a self detonation alone that could kill an immortal. Fang Yuan notices Hei Lou Lan still commands an absurd number of Gu worms despite his losses, and reasons his father helped him prepare for the ascension backlash with more Gu than anyone could imagine. ^{ch. 635}

Tai Bai Yun Sheng, stripped of every worm, begins falling from the sky, and Fang Yuan turns to risk saving his only ally in this fight. But Tai Bai Yun Sheng shouts instead for him to retrieve his Immortal Gu Man as Before, and Fang Yuan’s heart jumps as he spots the six fingered formless fist carrying it fly free. Saving Tai Bai Yun Sheng now means losing the best chance at Man as Before, which the fist will likely carry off for good. Fang Yuan must choose, in this instant, between the two. ^{ch. 635}
