Stopped by himself?
Fang Yuan now feels the true weight of fortune rivalling heaven Gu’s power: a helplessness like being toyed with by destiny, where struggling only drags him deeper. Forced by the situation and hoping to avoid calamity, it seems the only path left is to take the greater benefit and save them. The gap between the two sides is closing fast. ch. 620
Mo Yao keeps screaming for him to save them, and reason agrees: helping Ma Hong Yun would put Fang Yuan on Fortune Rivalling Heaven’s side and let him borrow its strength against Giant Sun’s will. But another voice inside him roars back, refusing to surrender or bow his head, insisting he can kill Ma Hong Yun with a single slap and that even Fortune Rivalling Heaven cannot stop him. That voice only grows louder through his ringing ears. It feeds an ambition and fighting spirit that sets his blood boiling. ch. 620
Against habit, Fang Yuan decides to finish them personally. He smashes through the giant treemen and the coiling vines in front of him, reaches Ma Hong Yun and Zhao Lian Yun, and lifts his fist, killing intent solid enough to feel in the air itself. Startled by his resolve, Ma Hong Yun stumbles and falls, pulling Zhao Lian Yun down with him by their joined hands, an accident that shocks Fang Yuan even though it only delays his strike a little. ch. 620
At the same moment two treemen reach the pair, but Giant Sun’s will, unwilling to harm Ma Hong Yun directly, can only send vines to separate the two so it can kill Zhao Lian Yun alone. Five more treemen pierce up from the ground to block Fang Yuan. That costs him at least a dozen breaths. With the weak land spirit already out of the fight and false emotion fake will Gu safe under Hei Lou Lan’s protection, killing Zhao Lian Yun would cancel the pair’s ownership of the blessed land. That would leave Giant Sun’s will free to install Hei Lou Lan and Ma Hong Yun as owners through that same Gu instead. ch. 620
Fang Yuan, furious at yet another delay, forces his way through the defensive line in under ten breaths. The price is heavy: a wound clean through his chest, another through his back, a hole the size of a baby’s fist in his stomach, a badly fractured right forearm and a left leg twisted grotesquely out of shape. He laughs anyway. ch. 620
Unable to use his hand or leg fully, Fang Yuan still flies on his movement Gu and chases the fleeing pair through the air. Ma Hong Yun hunches over Zhao Lian Yun as vines coil in to pry them apart without harming him, and he watches helplessly, roaring in despair as she is dragged toward death in front of him. He is powerless to stop it. ch. 620
Mo Yao urges once more that this is the best moment to save them, since Ma Hong Yun’s gratitude would let Fang Yuan borrow the strength of his fortune, and asks why else Giant Sun’s will avoids killing him if not to use that luck. Calling her words nonsense, Fang Yuan instead grows calm. His face empties of the earlier malevolence. When they come within range he strikes a fatal blow, earth shattering and violent enough to burst the air before it, shrouding over Ma Hong Yun and Zhao Lian Yun like a rising dragon. ch. 620
Giant Sun’s will cries out in desperation and throws the surrounding treemen’s own bodies in as shields, trying to evacuate the pair by vine, though it already knows the effort is futile against a blow carrying all of Fang Yuan’s pent up wrath. The treemen’s trunks are smashed apart and the vines run out of time, leaving the attack, still at its peak force, about to crush them with every other treeman too slow to help. Everyone believes him dead. Fang Yuan, Giant Sun’s will, and even Ma Hong Yun and Zhao Lian Yun themselves think so. ch. 620
Every force in the fight, Hei Lou Lan, Tai Bai Yun Sheng, Eighty-Eight True Yang Building, Giant Sun’s will, Frost Jade Peacock, Fang Yuan and Mo Yao, has shown all it has, and Fang Yuan smiles, wondering what could still save Ma Hong Yun. Then a loud rumble shakes the ground. A dazzling golden light floods the whole scene. Fang Yuan briefly fears Giant Sun’s will has entered the building, but it is still outside, still being punished by heavenly tribulation, since the central continent Gu Immortals’ third method is not something to underestimate. Without it, central continent’s Gu Immortals could not have overthrown Eighty-Eight True Yang Building and returned victorious in Fang Yuan’s previous life. ch. 620
A giant golden light mass crashes down like a meteor. It destroys nearby treemen and wraps protectively around Ma Hong Yun and Zhao Lian Yun. Mo Yao screams in shock, recognising it as the luck path supreme true inheritance. Fang Yuan stops where he stands, asking how it could leave the true inheritance secluded domain to crash into this round and throw itself at Ma Hong Yun. ch. 620
Fang Yuan halts, already knowing from his own time in the secluded domain that a supreme true inheritance is not something he can touch, and he feels dejected that his third attempt has failed after coming so close. Mo Yao, distraught, cannot understand why the same inheritance she nearly died winning a mere crack from, the effort that cost her and Bo Qing their lives after only calamity beckoning Gu came of it, now throws itself whole at a rank three mortal. Calming himself, Fang Yuan grasps the reason: the supreme true inheritance recognized Ma Hong Yun of its own accord because he carries fortune rivalling heaven Gu, the true essence of Giant Sun Immortal Venerable’s luck path and, to the inheritance, its rightful leader. Two questions remain: why the inheritance came at this exact moment rather than earlier or later, and how it could leave the secluded domain at all. Both point back to the same factor, Giant Sun’s will. ch. 620
