The might of overwhelming fortune
Hei Lou Lan’s revealed trump card, a ten extreme physique nearing self-detonation, lets him suppress the Gu Immortal Tai Bai Yun Sheng and hunt him down, which is shocking but, on reflection, not truly strange. Fang Yuan grits his teeth: if Tai Bai Yun Sheng cannot defeat Hei Lou Lan, he will not win false emotion fake will Gu, and without that Gu there is no way to subdue the land spirit. His plan is ruined. Fang Yuan wonders whether this accident, striking the instant he moved to attack, is fortune rivalling heaven Gu’s own doing, and for some reason his killing intent only intensifies as he watches Ma Hong Yun from the tree. This time he does not move himself but manipulates the treemen instead, and the innermost ring raises its hammer fists and slams them down together. Frost Jade Peacock cries out pitifully as its head falls, and the barrier it had held together with all its effort shatters into golden dust and vanishes. ch. 619
With the last obstacle gone, the nearest treeman grabs for Ma Hong Yun and Zhao Lian Yun; she screams while he turns his back to shield her. Fang Yuan mutters for them to die. He ignores the black coffin luck still swelling above his head. The treeman’s palm looms over them, needing only to close, but at that instant a huge tremor shakes the whole of Eighty-Eight True Yang Building. ch. 619
A voice tears through heaven and earth, vowing death to whoever chased it out, and Ma Hong Yun raises his head in joy, certain their old ancestor has returned alive. Hei Lou Lan shows the same joy. Tai Bai Yun Sheng pales, knowing that if Giant Sun’s will truly returns, Eighty-Eight True Yang Building could display the might of a rank eight Immortal Gu House strong enough to trap a Gu Immortal. ch. 619
Fang Yuan is stunned. He spent some time inside Hu Immortal blessed land, but is certain the fifteen minutes was far from over, and he checks the glass owner token at once. Outside True Yang Building, layer upon layer of golden sand-like light mark the colossal Giant Sun’s will, still fighting off heavenly tribulation and earthly calamity as it tries to force its way in. That will has not entered, which leaves Fang Yuan baffled about where this new Giant Sun’s will inside the building came from. ch. 619
This new will gives him no time to think. Every treeman freezes like a statue, and Fang Yuan’s face reddens as the glass owner token burns hot in his hand and cracks spread across it. The mysterious will is tearing through the central continent Gu Immortals’ third arrangement, ordinarily well hidden, but Fang Yuan’s full unleashing of it has made the arrangement easy to find. If the token breaks, the third arrangement fails and the outside Giant Sun’s will could move freely through True Yang Building, letting it kill Fang Yuan by its own power alone. ch. 619
Fang Yuan rules out using Spring Autumn Cicada as too risky at his current stage and instead sends his own will into the glass owner token to fight back. The clash obliterates his injected will, and he spits blood, his head splitting with pain as Mo Yao’s will screams and he grows too dizzy to stand. He falls from the branch. Three treemen reach out with vine hands to seize him. ch. 619
Fang Yuan lost that round, so Giant Sun’s will regains control here and turns even the treemen against him, while Ma Hong Yun and Zhao Lian Yun use the chaos to flee blindly through the tree roots. Regaining awareness just in time, Fang Yuan drives his primeval essence into his Gu worms and shatters the grasping hand with three blows before landing hastily, his ears buzzing and his hearing nearly gone. He has no regret and laughs at the outcome anyway. The clash was inelegant, but it let him keep the token and exposed the truth about this Giant Sun’s will. It had split into three: the largest share tearing at the third arrangement, a small share fighting for control of the round, and the last share the one that beat Fang Yuan through the token. His own injected will exterminated the victorious share. Though the injected will was wiped out in turn, it combined with the arrangement’s resistance to badly damage the largest share, leaving Giant Sun’s will with only the small piece still controlling the round. ch. 619
Giant Sun’s will is enraged that it underestimated this mere mortal, unaware that Fang Yuan had stockpiled a whole store of wills in his mind to guard against Mo Yao, including special will, play will, deliberate will, keep will and heart will among others. Caught off guard, it suffers a great loss, and in fury it vows to destroy Fang Yuan’s corpse while sending the treemen after him again. Fang Yuan dodges while healing rapidly. He is wary of fighting the thick-skinned, strongly vital treemen head on. He realizes the treemen are chasing not only him and Tai Bai Yun Sheng but Zhao Lian Yun specifically, and the pair, fleeing that pursuit, end up drawing close to him by accident. ch. 619
Ma Hong Yun spots Fang Yuan and begs for help, and Fang Yuan, calling him naive to himself, closes the distance while shouting that Giant Sun’s will is trying to kill them all and that they share a common enemy. Zhao Lian Yun hesitates as she runs, worried, but with the treemen certain death and Fang Yuan their only chance, the two have no real choice. Mo Yao suddenly insists they must be saved, surprising Fang Yuan. She explains that Giant Sun’s will was set, from its creation by its main body, on a standing rule to exterminate any otherworldly demon it meets, which is why it is really hunting Zhao Lian Yun. Saving her, she argues, would turn the truly loving couple into Giant Sun’s will’s enemies and let Fang Yuan later use fortune rivalling heaven Gu’s own strength against it. ch. 619
Fang Yuan’s hidden killing intent toward Ma Hong Yun shrinks at once, and then he realizes that Ma and Zhao are already in mortal danger from the treemen, so simply reaching them now would already be a rescue. He counts three separate times Ma Hong Yun has proven too hard to kill: Hei Lou Lan’s trump card interrupting the first attempt, and Giant Sun’s will’s sudden appearance weakening his own mind by at least thirty percent on the second. Now, a third time, it is Mo Yao’s own argument that stops him. His original reason for killing Ma Hong Yun was to change the land spirit’s ownership, but with Hei Lou Lan now protecting false emotion fake will Gu and that Gu out of reach anyway, killing them no longer serves that purpose. Struck by this, Fang Yuan wonders whether this time the one stopping him is himself. ch. 619
