Old Man Yan Shi’s timing, offering the exact Gu he needs at the exact moment he is browsing, reads to him as no coincidence: this Gu Immortal walks the wisdom path. The path traces back to Star Constellation Immortal Venerable, lord of the heavenly court’s second generation. She lived nineteen thousand years, the second longest lifespan among rank nine Gu Immortals, and before she died she deduced from the heavenly secret that the heavenly court would go without a lord for a long time after her death, falling into turmoil as three Demon Venerables rose in succession. In southern border’s Sheng Si blessed land, the rank seven Gu Immortal Old Man Yan Shi watches the same exchange, the killer ghost doctor Chou Jiu kneeling before him. Chou Jiu is disappointed that Fang Yuan has not taken the bait. Old Man Yan Shi is not; he calls Fang Yuan an interesting little fish whose disposition, for a mere mortal, surpasses many Gu Immortals, but says the man is courting death for enslaving Chou Jiu and crossing Shadow Sect. He tells Chou Jiu he has already altered the slavery Gu binding him, and that he expects Fang Yuan to join the righteous demonic battle at Yi Tian mountain, where Chou Jiu can spy at his side and wait for a chance to strike.
