Righteous Path Hero
Fang Yuan judges the moment right and sends in the night wolf myriad beast king with a dozen night wolf thousand beast kings, and the pair block Yan tribe’s Gu Masters directly. Yan tribe suffers its first death of the battle. He howls with wolf howl Gu to lift the wolf group’s fighting strength and breathes out wolf smoke Gu to heal their wounds, and with him now personally in the fight it turns fully in the wolves’ favor. Hao Ji Liu pales, and the Yan tribesmen glare back at Fang Yuan with hatred, fear and fury. He falls back behind a screen of wolves, among them an immature white-eyes wolf already stronger than an ordinary hundred wolf king, guarding against any attempt to strike him down directly. ch. 473
Ground down by the primeval essence the cannon-fodder wolves already drained from them, Yan tribe’s elders start dying one after another. One curses Fang Yuan with his last breath, vowing to haunt him as a ghost; Fang Yuan silently scoffs that the man has no chance to become a ghost, that his soul will become fertilizer for Dang Hun Mountain instead. Yan tribe’s battle hall elder demands single combat and charges at him with the last of his strength, but the wolves tear the elder apart before he arrives, leaving his corpse bare-boned and bloody on the ground. ch. 473
Yan Tian Ji, trembling at each elder’s death, calls Fang Yuan a false righteous hero for striking down his own comrades and swears young master Liu Wen Wu will avenge them all. Fang Yuan dismisses this as a loser’s curse, a weakling’s habit of pinning hope of revenge on someone else. He then has the night wolf myriad beast king strike Yan Tian Ji down: nearly every bone in his body breaks, and he dies on impact after being flung through the air. ch. 473
Ge Guang arrives with a band of elders. Ge tribe’s battle hall elder reports that Yan tribe’s higher-ups are wiped out but for one rank three elder, and that the letter Yan Tian Ji sent for help never got through, leaving Yan tribe’s camp with no idea what is coming. Ge Guang asks whether to chase down the escaped Hao Ji Liu or move on the camp instead, and Fang Yuan picks the camp. ch. 473
Out on a floating island in crescent lake, a clam Gu surfaces and opens, releasing Hao Ji Liu and his hostage Yan Cui Er: this was the third escape route he had scouted in advance. Shaken by what he has just survived, Hao Ji Liu privately reckons that northern plains’ foremost enslavement masters, a group of three that included Jiang Bao Ya, Yang Po Ying and Ma Zun, now number four, and suspects Fang Yuan let him get away on purpose. ch. 473
Still set on his original plan, Hao Ji Liu means to give Yan Cui Er to young master Hei Lou Lan, whose well-known lechery promises him a handsome reward for her; that she is also the fiancee of Hei Lou Lan’s rival Liu Wen Wu for the imperial court’s lordship makes taking her into his harem an irresistible temptation besides. He tells her Chang Shan Yin has already killed her father and the elders and is coming for the rest of her tribe. She refuses to believe a righteous hero would do such a thing, and Hao Ji Liu answers that a righteous hero with a claim to revenge is more frightening than any demonic cultivator, since no one can call him to account for it. ch. 473
Declaring herself Yan tribe’s next leader now that her father is dead, Yan Cui Er begs Hao Ji Liu to warn the tribe and offers to make him an external elder with the run of its resources. The offer tempts him, but the thought of Fang Yuan makes him flinch back. He slaps her hard, tells her he has already found her a match, and throws her back into the clam Gu before sailing on west. ch. 473
