After Yan tribe’s higher-ups fall
Fang Yuan’s past-life memory already places the later path: after capturing her and extorting Yan tribe, Hao Ji Liu offers her to Hei Lou Lan at the heroes assembly. ch. 472 In the present, Hao Ji Liu escapes the wolf fight with her in a clam Gu and lands on a floating island on crescent lake. He tells her Chang Shan Yin killed her father and the elders, and that the wolf group will take Yan tribe camp next. She kneels and begs him to send a letter, claims that with her father dead she is Yan tribe’s next leader, and offers to make him an external elder if the tribe survives; he slaps her, refuses, and tosses her back into the clam Gu to escort her to young master Hei Lou Lan as a meeting gift meant to strike at rival Liu Wen Wu. ch. 473
Bargaining chip between rivals
At the assembly Hei Lou Lan orders her to bring a new cup and pour wine; she walks forward in gorgeous attire and serves him. The same stretch restates that she is Yan tribe’s eldest daughter and Liu Wen Wu’s fiancée, that Hao Ji Liu offered her to Hei Lou Lan as a meeting gift, and that Hei Lou Lan brought her to attack Liu Wen Wu. When Hei Lou Lan offers to return her if Liu Wen Wu admits defeat, Liu Wen Wu laughs her off and tells Hei Lou Lan to keep her. ch. 497 Later, when Fang Yuan as Chang Shan Yin sides with Hei Lou Lan, Liu Wen Wu’s private thought again treats Yan Cui Er as a wife-to-be he can discard, both from northern plains patriarchal custom and because Yan tribe has already been exterminated. ch. 499
