Chapter 1015

Heavenly Court’s Gu Immortals are immensely fearful after watching the beastman die. They call him a crazed demon nobody can save, one who holds killing to be the greatest joy, though they grant his madness had a cause. They reason his invincible mindset is the root of invincibility, so Grey Memory cannot stop him, and while he is no Demon Venerable now and cannot be physically invincible, he stays mentally invincible. ^{ch. 1015}

Another myriad tribulation arrives while Grey Memory still runs: Grand Clear Space, a space path power of diving jade birds that erases whatever it touches. Heavenly Court’s Gu Immortals recall a Northern Plains predecessor who once failed it yet survived, inspiring the immortal killer move Three Winged Green Bird that his descendants used to dominate Northern Plains. The birds circle Spectral Soul, cutting deep wounds across his body. ^{ch. 1015}

The grey fog keeps replaying his life, its largest images marking his widest swings of emotion. One shows him, only a Gu Immortal then, fighting featherman Gu Immortals in a green heaven fragment world until their leader’s Immortal Gu House, Sacred Feather City, leaves the humans utterly defeated and Spectral Soul heavily injured, barely surviving. Smaller fragments then condense his whole life as killing nature deepens with cultivation. One larger scene shows him demanding a dead Demon Venerable’s Thieving Heaven inheritance for himself, only to fail, since it is meant for otherworldly demons alone, and return empty handed, spitting blood. ^{ch. 1015}

Another scene shows him as a Demon Venerable destroying a super force and slaughtering over ten million people for lifespan Gu. Looking at the Gu in his hand, he is perplexed. He asks why heaven would create people only to want them dead, a question his own killing path cannot answer. ^{ch. 1015}

A later scene returns him to the same inheritance space. There Thieving Heaven’s will offers to share its experience, since Spectral Soul now wants only an answer, not the inheritance itself. Thieving Heaven reveals himself as an otherworldly demon named Ben Jie Sun, a mecha operator who wants only to go home. ^{ch. 1015}

In Eighty-Eight True Yang Building, Spectral Soul holds the inheritance of Giant Sun, who once tried to plunder lifespan Gu across Northern Plains. He concludes that possessing a body with a soul only postpones an unavoidable death, and that a vicious heaven’s will, producing fewer and fewer lifespan Gu, is what decides a long life. At the River of Time he later corrodes a floating red lotus with his darkness until a ghost face marks it, then asks Red Lotus Demon Venerable why he purposely stopped and left the heavily injured fate Immortal Gu behind. He concludes that Star Constellation Immortal Venerable made a deep scheme. So only a complete otherworldly demon, he decides, can thoroughly destroy fate. Thieving Heaven, he adds, is like his own move Soul Replacement: only half an otherworldly demon, a soul from elsewhere in a body born here. He wonders whether the Red Lotus true inheritance could make him half an otherworldly demon too. ^{ch. 1015}

A final scene finds him alone in a dark room among countless corpses used in Gu formations: disheveled, his hands and body covered in blood, skeletal, his eyes deeply swollen yet shining, staring at The Legends of Ren Zu. He declares he has only now truly comprehended it as human path’s own exposition, Ren Zu’s true inheritance, whose methods could build him a new body and, after soul replacement, make him half an otherworldly demon. But it is too late, he says. He is heavily injured beyond treatment, and death is approaching. Watching, Heavenly Court’s Gu Immortals are deeply shocked that Spectral Soul Demon Venerable, invincible in the world, has actually died of his injuries, whether at another’s hand or his own. The myriad tribulation Grand Clear Space still continues: more than half of Spectral Soul’s thousand arms are already chopped off by the jade birds, his body covered in wounds, and he still does not resist. ^{ch. 1015}
