Ancient Soul Sect’s hold on the near layers, and how far explorers later push, come into view.

Ancient Soul Sect keeps its headquarters here and treats the place as exclusive domain, yet has only fully explored eighteen layers, with brief work to the twenty-seventh and Gu Immortals only rarely between the twenty-eighth and thirty-sixth. Hei Lou Lan recalls exploration stopping at thirty-six layers; Fang Yuan says the depth goes further. ^{ch. 728}

In Fang Yuan’s previous life, beast tides pour from Earth Abyss onto Central Continent, and Ancient Soul Sect takes the first blow. After years of surface fighting, righteous and demonic Gu Masters push into the abyss; past the thirty-sixth layer they find a larger underground world of beast groups, desolate beasts, and ancient desolate beasts. By the time Fang Yuan self-detonates in that life, explorers have found one hundred and seven layers, while Ancient Soul Sect still holds only the thirty-six layers nearest the surface. ^{ch. 728}
