Gu Set

If the core is destroyed in refinement, the entire set collapses, so Wei Yang’s first advice is to convert that core into a vital Gu. One core is not enough: several important support Gu are needed, and a wrong choice will not let the core display its full value. When strength path flourished in ancient times, many more Gu complemented all-out effort Gu; most of those are extinct, so that set cannot be assembled by ancient methods and has to be explored. ^{ch. 286}

Fang Yuan’s strength path plan uses all-out effort Gu as the core, with self-reliance Gu and bitter strength Gu as the support. With a few other Gu accompanying those three, he treats the set as initial success. Greater success, in that plan, waits on useful Gu from the three kings inheritance. ^{ch. 286}

Using a support Gu as the core is quite rare. Most Gu Masters use support Gu in the set as assistance to the core Gu. Wei Yang’s own pattern is the ordinary one: rainbow light Gu, a movement Gu, as the core, with offensive broadsword light Gu as a main support and light source Gu as another support. All-out effort Gu is a support Gu that can still fill the core position. ^{ch. 288}

Bai Ning Bing’s killer move ice blade storm uses revolving Gu paired with whirlwind Gu and ice blade Gu, forming an icy tornado. Using several Gu together as one technique is covered on killer moves. ^{ch. 299}

Once all-out effort Gu, bitter strength Gu, and self-reliance Gu are together, the Gu set that Fang Yuan planned earlier has already reached initial success, forming the skeleton. ^{ch. 318}

At Ku Mo’s level, the Gu set he created was completely customised for himself, using his battle style, his understanding of the bone path, and his understanding of battles and Gu Masters. Fang Yuan judges that if he inherited that set, the battle strength he could display would not be half of Ku Mo’s. Wu Gui’s other Gu were mixed among different paths and were a mess, unlike Ku Mo and Tie Mu Bai’s complete Gu set. ^{ch. 380}

At a shop Fang Yuan finds strength path Gu in only three kinds, jin strength Gu, jun strength Gu, and beast strength Gu, and most are for attacking. Defense, investigation, and assistance are scarce there, so he judges it hard to create a Gu set from just strength path Gu. That shop’s soul path stock has Gu across those aspects, and he reads forming them into a set as letting the worms help each other and obtain greater effects.
