Gu Yue Chi Cheng

Gu Yue Chi Cheng is the Chi family's young heir in the Gu Yue clan on Qing Mao Mountain, grandson of elder Gu Yue Chi Lian and a public B grade rival to Gu Yue Mo Bei in Fang Yuan's academy year.

He enters at the Gu Yue Awakening Ceremony on Qing Mao Mountain, where the academy elder calls him Gu Yue Chi Chen and the flower sea records a public B grade result after thirty six steps. He is grandson of Gu Yue Chi Lian, among the clan’s most influential authorities, and Fang Yuan’s memory already states that the B grade face covers a true C grade talent kept up by that grandfather. ch. 4 A week later the academy treats that class as rank one Gu Masters at initial stage. ch. 7 Academy scenes describe him as short, with a face full of pockmarks. ch. 24

Chi heir and the false aptitude

Inside the Gu Yue clan, his rivalry with Gu Yue Mo Bei is the junior face of the Chi and Mo elders’ struggle. ch. 25 Chi Lian tells him outright that the clan-facing B grade result is a cheat so the Chi family keeps a successor strong enough to hold its supporters, and that Chi Cheng must stand as the branch’s public image even when help stays in the shadows. ch. 29 Chi Cheng’s own thoughts already treat the C grade truth as settled while the academy still sees B grade. ch. 26

Chi Lian then sustains the cover by pouring silver primeval essence into Chi Cheng’s aperture every few days, a method that mixes foreign aura into the aperture and will limit later growth unless a Cleansing Water Gu can flush it out. Chi Cheng accepts that cost for the Chi family’s future. ch. 50 Fang Yuan later reads the same need when a Cleansing Water Gu appears for sale in the caravan treehouse. ch. 111 Chi Lian does buy that Gu for Chi Cheng, but Fang Yuan then forces the loan of it, ch. 155 and uses it himself to clear Man-beast Life Burial residue, so the purchase never reaches Chi Cheng’s aperture. ch. 159 Tie Ruo Nan later reconstructs the same purchase from Jia Fu’s intel as proof of the fake B grade cover, ch. 179 and on the clan’s Photo-audio recording she also reads Chi Cheng’s Awakening walk as a cheat that attracts Hope Gu through something applied to his body. ch. 180 A later chapter still uses Chi Cheng as the Qing Mao Mountain example of a junior who received refined primeval essence from Chi Lian. ch. 226

Academy rival

Among his year he is loaded with primeval stones relative to ordinary students, ch. 23 and he ties Mo Bei on an early cultivation test. Mo Bei’s own thoughts treat Chi Cheng and Fang Zheng as the real threats of their year. ch. 24 When the academy names class officers, Mo Bei takes chairman and Chi Cheng becomes one of the two vice chairmen beside Fang Zheng. ch. 53 ch. 54

For a second Gu he chooses the Dragonpill cricket Gu, a speed and dodging worm; Gu Yue Bo reads that choice as wit and tactics with a weak nature that avoids frontal fights. ch. 63 Arena scenes show him leaping clear of close combat with Scarlet Pill Cricket Gu and answering with moonblades. ch. 82 At the year-end checks he stands at rank one peak stage beside Mo Bei. ch. 81 On the arena he loses to Fang Zheng after that weak nature is turned against him, and clan talk already names him the Chi faction’s future leader opposite Mo Bei for the Mo faction. ch. 83

Rank two inheritor

During a later beast-tide mobilisation, chapter narration confirms a rank two red belt with a metal plate marked 2, and that he ascended not long ago with Gu Yue Chi Lian’s help. The same scene treats him as the Chi faction’s inheritor under Chi Shan’s group lead, and he sneers that Fang Yuan is still rank one beside a rank two like himself. ch. 93

Death

A wolf-tide politics survey still lists inheritor Chi Cheng as alive after Chi Lian dies, with elder Gu Yue Chi Zhong left beside him to keep the Chi faction standing. ch. 174 In the Gu Yue and Xiong alliance against Bai Ning Bing, Chi Cheng stands among the young leaders who try to break Bai Ning Bing’s spirit and asks who should attack first. In the collapse that follows, Bai Ning Bing turns him into an ice sculpture caught in a dodging pose right before death, the face still showing shock and fear inside the ice coffin. ch. 189 Later chapters that name him again use him only as the earlier Qing Mao example of borrowed primeval essence, without expanding that ice-sculpture death. ch. 226

Translation notes

Early chapters write the name as Gu Yue Chi Chen, including the Awakening call and Chi Lian’s household scenes. ch. 4 ch. 21 Academy chapters also print Gu Yue Chi Cheng, ch. 23 ch. 29 but that stretch does not fix the spelling: chapter 50 still mixes Chi Chen beside Chi Cheng, and chapter 53 still names Chi Chen when he becomes vice chairman. ch. 50 ch. 53 From chapter 54 onward the English chapter text used here prints Chi Cheng for the same heir, including later Qing Mao recalls. ch. 54 ch. 226 The cricket Gu appears as Dragonpill cricket Gu and Scarlet Pill Cricket Gu in different chapters, with no second cricket Gu named for him. No Chinese characters for his personal name appear in the English chapter text used here.
