When Chi Cheng activates it against Gu Yue Fang Zheng, an orange red-coloured glow comes from both legs as he leaps clear. ^{ch. 83} No cited chapter names its Rank in plain words. It appears among the academy second-Gu picks available to rank one students. ^{ch. 62}

Effect

Chi Cheng seeks it for evasion. ^{ch. 62} Gu Yue Bo names the gain as increased dodging ability. ^{ch. 63} In the mid-year wild-boar exam he uses it to leap three meters aside and avoid a falling tree. ^{ch. 73} On the year-end arena he jumps around with high agility to stay out of close combat, then answers with moonblades. ^{ch. 82} Against Fang Zheng the Gu lets him retreat ten meters in one light leap, and Fang Zheng treats each use as spending a set amount of primeval essence. Chi Cheng also frames it as the speed edge Fang Zheng lacks on that stage. ^{ch. 83}

Chi Cheng’s use

Wild Dragonpill crickets

Earlier Qing Mao Mountain nights name wild Dragonpill crickets as night insects that sing under moonlight, emit faint red light, and leap in droves with bodies flashing like red agate. ^{ch. 13} Fang Yuan later dashes through a group of them while chasing the Liquor worm. ^{ch. 14} No cited chapter states that Chi Cheng’s Gu is refined from those wild insects, or that the Gu worm’s body matches that wild form.
