Gu Yue Mo Bei is a B grade Gu Yue clan youth on Qing Mao Mountain, grandson of elder Gu Yue Mo Chen, and the Mo family's male heir among Fang Yuan's academy class.
He enters at the Gu Yue Awakening Ceremony on Qing Mao Mountain, where the academy elder calls Gu Yue Mo Bei third among the youths and records B grade talent with a six-by-six primeval sea. He is horse-faced, tall and sturdy among his peers, and Gu Yue Mo Chen is named as his grandfather among the watching elders. ch. 4 A week later the academy treats that class as rank one Gu Masters at initial stage. ch. 7
Appearance
He is a horse-faced youth dressed in linen robes. He is tall in build and looks much sturdier than his peers, with a brave aura about him. ch. 4 His horse face lights in a confident smile. His stature is stout and gives out a fierce and strong aura. ch. 24
Mo family heir
Inside the Gu Yue clan, Mo Chen speaks of him as the youth who must one day take charge of the Mo family branch and compete with the Chi family branch. ch. 21 Fang Yuan’s reading after the Gao Wan matter treats Mo Bei as the family’s only male line, the grandson Mo Chen protects by refusing elder interference in junior fights. ch. 38 Mo Yan is his blood-related sister, and early talk already frames him as the future head of the Mo family. ch. 31 ch. 50 Later year-end spectators name Mo Bei the Mo faction’s future leader beside Chi Cheng on the Chi side. ch. 83
His standing among classmates is the political mirror of that heir role. The academy elder treats the contest between Mo Bei and Chi Cheng as the surface of the struggle between the clan’s two most powerful elders. ch. 25 When Fang Yuan blocks the academy gate, Mo Bei is among the first to challenge him and is knocked out in short order. ch. 27 At fifteen he still plans to defeat Fang Yuan through talent and cultivation rather than accept those early losses. ch. 50
Academy rank and Gu worms
Mo Bei is the second of the class to break from rank one initial stage into middle stage, just ahead of Gu Yue Fang Zheng. When Fang Yuan refuses the class chairman post, Mo Bei takes it as second place, with Fang Zheng and Chi Cheng as vice chairmen. ch. 53 He swaggers under that title until Fang Yuan beats him again at the gate and raises the extortion fee for the chairman’s seat. ch. 54
Early academy work centers on refining a Moonlight Gu. After Fang Yuan takes first place, the housekeeper reports that young master Mo Bei has no mood to finish that refinement though he was close to succeeding. ch. 21 Clan leader Gu Yue Bo later notes that Mo Bei chose Yellow Camel Longhorn Beetle Gu for stamina and sustained battle after the early Moonlight Gu work. ch. 63 In the year-end arena Fang Yuan reads that same endurance Gu from Mo Bei’s tireless match against Gu Yue Jin Zhu. ch. 82
In the mid-year wild-boar exam he takes fourteen tusks, second only to Chi Cheng’s sixteen, and is indignant at finishing behind his rival. ch. 77 Fang Yuan and Chi Cheng reach rank one upper stage only after Fang Zheng and Mo Bei have already advanced, ch. 78 and the year-end examination then names Mo Bei rank one peak stage, matching Chi Cheng and staring him down as a rival. ch. 81 In the arena he beats Gu Yue Jin Zhu when her stamina fails, ch. 82 then loses to rank two Fang Zheng while still challenging upward from rank one and fighting with moonblades of his own. ch. 83 Later peer ranking still groups Fang Zheng, Mo Bei, and Chi Cheng as the dominant youths of that age, ch. 107 and the academy elder recalls having been most optimistic of Fang Zheng, then Chi Cheng and Mo Bei, before Fang Yuan reached elder rank first. ch. 155
Wolf tide death
During the wolf tide the Mo faction inheritor Gu Yue Mo Bei has already died, even though the faction tried to protect him on a battlefield where surprises and self-preservation made that protection fail. With Mo Bei gone, clan rules that favour male inheritance leave the Mo faction without an inheritor; Mo Yan remains, but her assets cannot carry the faction name the way a male heir would. ch. 172 A later three-clan stretch still lists Mo Bei among the Gu Yue losses that follow Qing Shu’s death. ch. 189

The fan translation writes the name as Gu Yue Mo Bei, with Mo Bei and young master Mo Bei as short forms in clan speech. ch. 21 ch. 54 The camp under Mo Chen is called Mo family, Mo family branch, and Mo faction in different chapters, with Mo Bei named as its heir or future leader in each wording. ch. 21 ch. 50 ch. 83 An early study scene also prints “Gu Yue Mo Bei” where the speaker is clearly elder Mo Chen rather than the student, which is a translation slip rather than a second person. ch. 21 No Chinese characters for his personal name appear in the English chapter text used here.
